Angels Exotic

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

I'm loving this one more and more. First off it has fantastic color. Secondly i love the ruffly blossoms. It's quite unique, at least here in my collection. I don't have any other doubles that show this much ruffling. Lastly, I love pigtail curling tendrils!

That one I got from Eddie Dewayne. It's one of Anne Kirshner-Abels brugs.

Whenever possible I try to grow as many brugs as I can in partial shade. Those that are getting heavy sun I will move them to a shady area when they start to bloom.....of course, not if it's growing in a 20 gallon!

Gary
have you got a triple from your angels exotic, mine had 3or 4 Blooms that were a double then, it Bloomed a triple
yea 3 skirts, I do have pic's of it, I was so happy, I went out in the middle of the night, my camera does a good job
of getting good pic's at night, also my neighbor took a great photo with a special lens, so I have about 4 photo's,
the plant is about 1&1/2 ft tall, I can't wait till it gets over 5ft tall

So far only doubles but i still have 4 or 5 buds to open up.

Hamilton, OH

I love that one also, I am waiting for Superspot, Peach Taffy, & a few other doubles to Bloom, as soon as I can, I will post Pic's, right now Equador pink, Peaches & Creme, Frosty pink, are in Bloom, for the first time, I have pollen
from those, I am waiting for Apricot moon flower, so I can pollinate it with the pinks, just to see what I come up with
I hope Superspot doesn't disappoint me I want a red one.
you have so many pretty ones, you have so many dark pink ones, that's what I hope for, it will be hard to top the
Brugs you have

The only picture I have ever seen of super spot where it had amazing color is that famous pic showing it alongside a cherry tomato. Although we all know that many factors affect the depth of color I have yet to see any pics of superspot that come even close.
Now, we have some great american cultivars that produce colors that are close to red and that coloration has been seen over and over in many U.S. gardens. Cultivars like Painted Lady, MM, Miss Emily Mackenzie have proven that they can achieve colors that match or even surpass the superspot picture, But again coloration will vary depending on weather, soils and other growing conditions.

Gary
I have those, Painted Lady, MM, Miss Emily Mackenzie, I also have Rosalla, it's suppose to be dark pink also, my Angels Exotic, the plant was small only 1&1/2 ft tall, the Bloom hung all the way to the ground, my neighbor came over to take a pic she has a professional camera, she couldn't get over how pretty it was

My Angels Exotic is also only about 18inches tall. This is it's first bloom. As you can tell it doesn't have that ruffle at the top of the bloom. I am more and more convinced that weather conditions and humidity have a lot to do with how a bloom is going to turn out.
I grew one of Brenda Delphs that was a white double with the ruffled top and mine didn't produce the ruffle on that one either.

So far every blossom has had upper skirt that is ruffly.

Gary, love those tight curling tendrils and strong color. You should have a lot of fun playing with the pollen.

This has beeen, hands down, the best double we are growing here. We keep all my brugs in at least partial shade during our HOT summers. This one never disappoints. When it blooms, it tends to produce large flushes and often times it will bloom when the rest of the brugs are just sitting there- looking uninspired. Angel's Exotic, for these reasons, and also the fact its coloration can get very dark--almost red- at times------ and its ruffling of flowers is second-to-none, is our favorite specimen on premises (not to mention our best seller). I am glad to see people are finally posting pics of this one! It is personally my favorite brug. If I had to get rid of all my double/triple pinks and could only keep one, this one would be it.

Brad

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

I agree Brad. This was a new plant and had 2 mini flushes. I used the pollen to cross her out to some stuff that I thought would really do her ruffly blooms some justice. I'm going to start growing out some of these crosses this summer.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

This one is UNbelievable!!!!

Watertown, NY

Here is a picture of a new one a friend of mine has grown from seeds he bought from ebay. It is a Volker Sander's from Germany cross. I am lucky enough to be trialing it and it has buds. It is the color of ripe watermelon.

let me see what I can do for you this fall, I am going to try to air layer, on a couple, AE is so cute it's low spreading
but once it blooms it blooms often, anyway that's what it's doing for me, I will post pic's as soon as I download what
I have on my camera, I have one triple, the rest have been doubles

Elizabeth

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Xeri,

On your 10:25 post...are there a couple of cute little "brugs" in the back on the right?

Anyway you first post is one to die for. I was surprised about the shade.

Hap

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

The brug in the background is Velvet Rose. As far as the shade it's created. I have some very tall brugs that I grow as standards. The canopies that they form at the top provide the shade for those smaller less sun tolerant plants and my smaller seedlings. If you look just to the left of the AE blooms you will see the rim of a 20 gallon pot that houses "Doosie". Inside the pot you can see some 4" pots that house some seedlings of mine which are enjoying the dappled sunlight. Placing the 4" pots inside the 20 gallon pot actually serves 2 purposes. The obvious one is the shelter for the seedlings, the not so obvious one is that it helps to keep the 20 gallon pot from being over watered when I am away during the summer rainy season. The smaller pots cover the surface helping to absorb and deflect some of the excess rain. It's a very beneficial, symbiotic relationship.
