is Kahili Ginger invasive in zone 9?

Santa Cruz, CA(Zone 9b)

Someone gave me some Kahili Ginger and i'd like to know if i should plant it among my callas and cannas or if its too invasive. the callas and canna are already there and they are vicious. lol

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I've never heard of it being invasive around here, I think it's too dry.

cool thanks

I think it may depend on the conditions and how much water you give it and how much you want it to spread and how long it's in the ground in that spot. The kahili that I gave to a friend in a 5 gallon size is now (some years later) a patch about 15' x 15'.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

My kahili ginger here grows well, and spreads slowly. Not at all invasive. The butterfly ginger spreads three times as fast and gets out of hand. The cannas that I have are much more invasive too. The kahili gingers are my favorite because they are well behaved, and the flowers are lovely. It spreads just enough for me to give some away, or to plant in another part of the garden if I want.
