CLOSED: what is this thing?

Campobello, SC(Zone 7a)

he's creepier than most spiders I've seen. He's hanging out on a passi leaf right next to my deck steps. His tail is orange and up in the air like a scorpion.

I've seen those before too, but I don't know what they are.

I was standing right next to him when I saw him and I was on the phone with my husband. I said a very bad word and jumped back very quickly. He asked me if I was OK and I just told him I hope this thing isn't a "good" bug cause I want it gone.

Sinks Grove, WV

This is a 'good guy'; it's a nymph of an assassin bug (Hemiptera/Heteroptera: Reduviidae) called a wheel bug (Arilus cristatus) - see http://tinyurl.com/r3jvp7 for detailed information.

Thanks Suunto. It looks like one with a nasty bite too!
