Finally, the contortionist got a good photo! (The crowd cheers!)

Another one I love! I got color! I also counted three for sure and maybe four?

The two sort of facing each other were telling each other off. Was so funny! : D

My peacock sounded off, and they looked over to see what was up! I've noticed before that when he gives his alert sound that the other critters pay attention. Great Watch Critter. Better than the geese.

Whatever it was, it alarmed them and they flew up in this tree.

i was able to get this photo from a different angle later in the day when the feeders weren't in the shade.

The next day when I was out in the front, I noticed this guy.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

As you can see he was being chased by this guy.

Reinforcements arrive.

Too far away to tell what the littler birds were, but the big one was a crow. The little guys eventually drove the crow away, but not before I'd seen them circling overhead several times. : )

You'll never guess who found his/her way back into the gh.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

You'd think the bird would learn. But it flew frantically around the gh.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Then it would perch. Wouldn't leave at dusk, so I finally just left the door open a crack. He had flown the "coop" by the next morning.

Am sending two not very good photos of this bird who flew up in my face then landed on the lantana, just to scold me! What did I do? Their feeders were empty but hey, I did fill them right after this photo, and I was away for a while.
Just wish I was faster on the camera.
First of two photos.

I know that it's very blurry, but does any one know what kind of bird this is?

Looks like a Lesser Goldfinch. Just an uneducated guess.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

But right! Yep, Lesser Goldfinch.

Those are the ones that stay year round up here. I put out suet along with thistle for them.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Cool I didn't know that they lived here too.
I have some photos to post, and ran out of energy last night.
Get ready!
This is above the spot DH thinks the burrowing owls are nesting. I was hoping to get some photos. Took this one, because I just liked the way the birds looked perched on the wild tobacco. Am sending a series of photos. Will explain as I go.

Another photo a few minutes later. I don't know what kind of birds that these are.

This photo was taken so you could see more of the surroundings.

How many birds do you count in that tree?

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Crows flying to the northeast at dusk last night.

A pair of mourning doves on a boulder by that wild tobacco. The birds overhead didn't seem to mind.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

After their talk they flew away.

Some of the flock has left. This is when DH said he thought that the burrowing owls were first coming out of their nest. I can just picture them stretching and yawning. LOL!

More birds leave.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

All of the birds have left, but DH says that he hears chirping from the owls. Took a photo, but can't see anyone in it.

I went wandering off, but DH excitedly called me back. I was only able to get one of the pair of burrowing owls, and due to the light, the photos aren't as clear as I'd like, but I'm still happy to have 'em.
I really missed these guys. Some of my all time favorite birds. Used to see them all the time until the dogs pretty much wiped out the squirrel population. Noticed hearing a squirrel earlier this year from that location. Haven't heard it recently though. Burrowing owls take over unused squirrel holes and make them their own. Been over a decade since I've seen them living here!
Am I JAZZED? You have to ask?
One burrowing owl scoping out the possibilities before leaving for the nightly hunt.
Was using the flash, and you can see the reflection in it's eye.

Using the telephoto so you can see what little detail there is to see.

I am so proud of this one. I was able to catch him with the camera right after he took off. I am so happy to see them living here again.

22 birds in the pic, can't quite make out what they are though.

Congrats on the Burrowing Owl!
