If they're the ones I think you mean they are woodlice. They eat the plant matter around your property.

While frowing up, we called them doodlebugs. I have no idea where that name came
from except my Mom was from Arkansas
and she is the one who would have
identified them for me.
They are harmless, just eating
dead plant matter, do not bite
or do other harm.
They are great fun to play
with anda great source of
entertainment.!
I know when we were kids we played with them.I had never heard of them harming plants but I have millions of them ! But thanks for reply..Porsha
