Bill and Anne live in south Atlanta in an old warehouse/machine shop turned into our home. We are retired investors enjoying our gardening. We have about 2 1/2 acres of land that we reclaimed from Kudzu. Now it is mostly grass and a small garden with tomatoes just beginning to bear.

In our front yard we planted Bradford pears that now tower above our 19 foot high brick outer walls. Evergreen clematis, Confederate jasmine and trumpet vines scale our walls. Giant green arbor vitae ring our property.

About three years ago we planted Chablis and Mars seedless grapes. We have not pruned them though we have kept them weeded and healthy. Just joined here to find out more about keeping grapes and found that we need to prune in late fall/early winter.

Most of our land is full sun. We would like to initiate building some formal gardens and more fruit and vegetables.

Would like to network with others both online and in our area. Here is a picture of the front of our home taken about 3 years ago.

Welcome to DG. Congratulations on getting rid of the Kudzu. You have a clean slate to work with, anything is possible. Since I'm in zone 5b, I can't be much help. Try contacting local garden clubs or your county extension office. They may be able to put you in touch with people in your area you can network. Your big planters are great, but look a little lost sitting out there all by themselves. Bring them together and fill with flowers. Start creating a private area. Some place with easy access from your home so you would have a comfortable place to sit with your new contacts and ponder the future of your property. It would be great if you would post pictures showing your property's progress.

Hi Bill and Anne! Great to meet you! We prune our Concords and Muskidines (sp) in February, when the weather is starting to turn good and everything is still dormant.

Welcome Bill and Anne!

The GA forum is a little slow right now, but it does pick up at other times. I bet everyone is busy rushing to put in last minute plants before it gets way too hot. There are a lot of very nice, knowledgeable and helpful people there. There are usually plants trades in spring or fall, sometimes both, where you can meet a lot of great people and get some fun new plants. :)
