I need help with my garlic bulbs!!!

Ashland, OH(Zone 6a)

I just recieved my garlic bulbs in the mail today (about 50 or so of them!). Only problem is, we've got a couple inches of snow now....and it's still coming down! The ground isn't completely frozen yet, so I could probably still move the dirt around a little, but I don't know if I dare. Does anyone know if it's safe? Will they make it thru the winter if I plant them now? I'm in zone 3. Thanks for the help!

dear antyb here is what i do my garlic bulbs. the best time to plant them are late september-october after agood frost.
I use a good multched soil high in compost and good drainage i use a raised bed 2ft deep but you dont need that much.
you are fine with the snow at least you know they wont start growing and then get frost. they will still grow any way but could be stunted. break up soil real good about 10-12inches deep.place each bulb with root base down plant in rows if you wish or any way doent matter really about 5or6 inches apart cover with soil and mulch about afoot or so deep leaves work great. wait unt till late spring and shoots should apear just like onions clean of some of the leaves and break up the soil on top jently dont disterb the bulbslet them go .water them good though the summer dont over water or they will rot when you water your garden at night or morning what ever| nothing speacial. in the late summer you will get seeds an top of the shoots you cant miss the thre pretty neat cli0p them off at bottom of seeds and put the in a small paper bag and store in warm dry dark place until fall and start all over. i have been growing garlic for only three years and started them from a couple of cloves of garlic that i bought from an old farmer and this is his way of doing it and if had great success.
you cant use the shoots for all kind of stuff wreaths and stuff im sure you have seen what they do thats not my cup of tea any i just grow it and eat it mmmmmmmm gooood and hot.
hope this helps you we live in upstat new york if this helps on planting time and and growing seasons
