What type of SPIDER is this!?

I have had these spiders living in my pond, above and under the water. I have always wanted to know what kind of spider it is? They really give me the Creeps!

This is an orb weaver (family Araneidae), likely in the genus Larinioides - see http://tinyurl.com/mt3ca8 for an example. These spiders frequently build their webs near water, and in spite of their appearance, are harmless to humans.
