Oak wilt

A friend of mine lost several oaks to oak wilt last year. The dead trees were removed, they cut the roots between the infected oaks and nearby oaks and treated the nearby oaks with fungicide.

How long does the fungus stay active in the soil? Can she replant oaks? Are there other tree species that are harmed by the fungus?

According to some sources no oak species is immune to oak wilt although some are more susceptible than others. According to one source, other hardwood trees in Wisconsin have contracted oak wilt. Oak Wilt is found here in central Texas and according to TAMU oaks can be replanted once the has passed through the area, but I couldn't find how long one should wait. Since oak wilt is only controlled not eradicated, it may be a good idea to diversify and plant trees other than oaks.
