tulip seeds!??!

Saint Cloud, MN

Several of my tulips have developed "seed pod" looking things after the petals fell off. Some of these pods are getting quite swollen. What is the best way to deal with these, assuming they are seed pods? I thought tulips only came from bulbs?

Thanks.

Here is a picture of the pod on my tulips.

What do I do to germinate these? Can it be done?

Did you ever get a reply? I'm interested as well :).

Nope-- nobody has answered this one yet. I am still holding onto the seed pods in the hopes somebody knows.

I say save the pod until it's dried, and give it a shot! I mean, garlic usually is grown from bulbs as well, but a friend of mine has grown more garlic plants from the seeds that set on those . . .

I think I read somewhere that it would take about 6-10 years (something like that) to get a flower from a tulip seed. Takes awhile for a plant started from seed to mature enough to produce flowers.

Maybe, but still . . . 10 years down the line she could say 'I grew those from seed!'

Absolutely!
