The sunny direction perhaps!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, they are always facing east.. perhaps the Sunny Mecca is there...

I had to sneak up behind them.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

If geography and science have not completely elluded me, I believe that is the direction of the morning Sunny Mecca. Glad you were able to sneak up so close behind.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

I did not want to disturb their sunworship!

However, I did notice a few unruly sunnies in the croud staring back at me.. they had mean looking eyes!

(Zone 6a)

Well.......................I'm out of the contest some darn animal ate my sunny!!! It's just a little stub now :(

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi elle, good to see you!

I think we may be having more people coming here.. Come on in cottage gardeners!!

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Hi, I just followed Blossom's link .
I have 9 sunflowers in my garden.

Thumbnail by gardengus
Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

I have no idea what kind they are.
About 13 years ago I saw some multi headed sunflowers in the edge of a corn field they were so pretty so I collected a hand full of seed.
I haven't ''planted any sense. They just come up where ever they are happy. When they are about three feet tall I pull most of them for goat feed, and leave a few for the birds and to resow.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

This one is over 12 foot tall and has not opened a bloom yet.
It has over 50 tip blossoms waiting for the top flower to send them the OK.

Question? I noticed this is in the cut flower form , Do you all grow them for inside ?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Hey, gus, link back to your pics on the other thread! You have some verrrrry nice sunnys there and I am sure everyone here would enjoy the cottage gardeners pics too, they really are quite beautiful!

My greater goal with all the sunflowers is to get a patch large enough going so I can just mow them down in the fall and leave the shreds and seed to the wild turkeys and other birds and have a stash to reseed in the spring!

I still do not have a large enough patch to satisfy our goal, but we are working on it.

We have a prairie that we are restoring some of the once was wildflowers there and it has been a great project! People have been sending us their excess seeds for both projects and it has been a great joy helping the wildlife!

This year we had some wonderful rare visitors of the feathered variety, some reddish egrets happened to our place and we have been seeing the trio quite reugularly! They are awesomely huge beautiful birds.
Well, anyway, gus, glad you could make it here and do bring your buddies and join the fun!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Some of us have greenhouses and some not! Most of us have cutting gardens and like to do floral arrangements! We enjoy getting creative here and showing off our arrangements and such to have fun with and often get critiqued by our friends here too! We also enjoy a lot of playful antics! So welcome agian! Enjoy your visits!

I have a small greenhouse that I use as what I call my GLORIFIED POTTING SHED and have a few threads going on that. I am up to link 5 there and do feel free to join me and the rest!

I started some of my sunnies in the GPS, but the majority we broadcasted out to a plot field out in our prairie!

Here is the link to my GPS5!

Nice to meet you and your sunnies gus - we love arranging and use all flowers and cuttings of all sorts. That is what makes this thread so unique there is no wrong way to arrange nor set of rules or standards to meet, we create what we enjoy and share it with friends. As BB said we do get sidetracked with other venues here and that keeps everything interesting right in one place.
Please browse around and look at our threads of arrangements, we have theme arrangements as well that must meet some criteria to follow the theme. We have two fab cafes where we meet to chat and take turns bringing in flowers to brighten up the place.
Hope to see you around with some of your creations.
Candee

(Zone 6a)

Hi Gus! I love your sunnies and think they should win the contest for all those branches! I had 2 sunnies but they got eaten by a critter. So now I'm working on the theme for next years sunny contest. Hope to see you around!

And please come join the Kale Kontest we started although none of us actually has any kale yet! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1022840/

Steven

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the invitation but I think it may be a bit late to start kale here our average first frost is Oct 15th only six weeks away.
How long to grow kale?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, gus, your date for frost and mine are about the same. I tried starting the kales, but had some damping off issues.. but SW came up with an idea so we are still going on with the contest! So do, everyone, come join us! hehehe!

Yipes, I went out to my sunny patch and OMG! The poor things look terrible! They are drooping and nodding and dropping seed...I guess I best start harvesting.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

The thought of frost only 6 weeks away is such a gloomy one. Seems like summer just got here.
Hey BB I got sunnies finally and keep forgetting to get out there with the camera, thanks for the reminder, I'll do it this evening!
