These guys (or girls) were all over our shirts on a hike in Natick, MA. Flies need love too, so I was wondering what they were.

This looks suspiciously like a snipe fly (Diptera: Rhagionidae, such as those in the genus Rhagio - see http://tinyurl.com/ohl9wd for an image. For the most part, snipe flies simply can be nuisances, but but several species in the western genus Symphoromyia will bite.
