I found this in my bathroom. Resembles a huge mosquito hawk. About three inches or so long.
what is this creature?!
Hi, I am up near Vancouver Canada and we have lots of those around here. We always called them 'Leather Jackets' , their actual name escapes me. I think that they eat mosquitos. One thing I know is they are not a biter and they are not at all a clever insect.
I hope that helps you.
I just scrolled down and Suunto correctly identified this as a 'crane fly'.

This may be Holorusia rubiginosa, a species known as a giant crane crane fly or the giant western crane fly - see http://tinyurl.com/o6t5d7 Unfortunately, they do not feed on mosquitoes; their larvae are scavengers on decomposing organic matter, and the adults may not feed at all.
There appears to be relatively limited information on this species posted on Dave's Garden - see http://tinyurl.com/r6n98b and http://tinyurl.com/pavc42
