WISHINGTO PROPAGATE PASSIONFLOWER VINE

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Hi, all.

I wish to propagate a Blue-Eyed Susan passionflower vine. Do any of you have any experience with that one? What would be the best method? etc., etc., etc.

Thank you so much.

I collected seed from a passion plant last fall and was able to grow plants from seed. I didn't get a lot to sprout, but was happy with a few. I soaked them in 10% H2O2 and water for a few days, folded them in a damp coffee filter in a ziplock for several days before they sprouted. I can't wait to see if they bloom this year.

Mine did not produce seeds thus far. Today, we had 4 blooms. Maybe someday. That vine is one powerful butterfly attractor, though.

Thanks.
Sylvain.

Have you tried air layering it?

I'm getting an ez clone machine. I bet that would work!

Thank you for pointing out this ez clone machine. I just wanted to take 4 or 5 cuttings so I can share my passionflower with friends. Although, I must admit it is intriguing.

I'll try the usual methods first: cutting in water, cutting in moist soil, air layering, etc. Maybe one of those will work.

I've had luck with one of the usual methods, placing cutting in moist soil. I also have volunteers pop up everywhere.

Pawleys Island, SC

My best method is to put the cuttings in water with a bubbler. I have also used oasis foam, but I don't think it disintegrates well.

I have had luck with cuttings with 3 nodes and the tops cut off. I put them in moist soil and kept them outside in the shade. They rooted just fine. This photo is from a site in England.

Straight water didn't take, for me .... even with some heat.
