How to propagate a broken propeller (crassula falcata) plant

I have a propeller plant that was about 6inches tall. I broke the top off moving it to a sunnier location for the summer. It is now in 2 3inch pieces. I would love to save the top that broke off and have it drying (forming a scab?) in an empty shot glass. Not sure what to do next? I have read a few different things, like let it dry out a long time and then lay it on top of cactus soil like a jade leaf? Help!
