Containers 2009

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

figured it just about time to start a thread for conatiners

this weekend we filled containers with cannas, tuber roses, and caladium (all from co-ops)....and we started our miniature gardens... keep in mind these are not done yet... still going to add some things to them

I really like the designs you've made with the stone. :-)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

They're SO cute!!!
I can't do any containers in my backyard, Wall-e likes digging them up. So have to plan for the front...I'm still planting things from the swap I'll get to my containers eventually.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

correction the designs Randy made... he said he felt like being back in high school building the sets for the plays... LOL

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

lol! Sounds like you both have been enjoying putting these together!
So far the only container gardening I've done is taking a couple 14" round pots and tossing in some lettuce and radish seeds. This weekend is supposed to be nice so maybe I'll get out some of my bigger containers to add some interest to the front porch. You've definetely inspired me!

When it gets warm enough I will pull out the EE's

Has anyone tried growing garden phlox in a container??

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I never have,do you consider how the root system takes the winter?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I haven't grown gardnen phlox Jen.. just the annual stuff... twinkle i think it's called

Ge.. love the osteospermum ... love your baskets!

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Ge, love the baskets, too! Do you fasten them down or are they heavy enough not to get blown over? We get some strong winds here and I'd love to steal your idea!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

DD has a friend who is a mortitian.
When there is a large funeral she delivers left over flowers to nursing homes and we are last on her delivery list.
Some of the containers are really good, others are paper and we toss. We have fresh flowers everywhere in the house for a week, they dont last long but in the winter, they are a great spirit lifter.
The baskets held huge arrangements. They have a plastic dish in the bottom.
I drilled holes in the dish and she plants them with what she chooses. She anchors them to the railings wits a bungie cord, works great.

Thanks, ge!

It's been weird weather, I think everyone is late on things this year.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sorry no time for photos again... planted some dwarf glads in a big whiskey barrel we picked up at the christmas tree shop a few months ago... filled the bird feeders ... watered the seedlings... cleaned and refilled the humming bird feeders

then sat my butt down to enjoy a glass of ice tea in the yard... I am whooped!
