Hello all... I found this spider in my kitchen on a wall up next to a cabinet that contains crackers, etc. I would like to know what this could be since I have 2 little Guinea Pigs that their cage is maybe 5feet from where I found this spider. I also noticed yesterday that there was a baby spider(assuming it came from this one) in their play pen. I killed it so nothing would happen to them. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am sure that there will be more of them since I already found that one baby...
Thank you,
Chris
What Kind of Spider Is This?
This is not a dangerous spider, I cannot be absolutely certain, but it may be Kukulcania arizonica, a crevice weaver in the family Filistatidae - see http://tinyurl.com/pfyazv for an image. The only truly dangerous spiders in Arizona are the widow spiders (Latrodectus spp. - see http://tinyurl.com/rxhg8w for an image) and the brown spiders in the genus Loxosceles (cousins to the brown recluse spider) - see http://tinyurl.com/pox6pk for an example.
