This is my favorite colocasia right now. I got this recently from Plant Delights. I read that it is a sport of Black Marble, and I think that is interesting. I have it right now in with some black marble. I think they look good together
Colocasia "Mojito"
Wow, I have been drooling over that one in the catalog and almost got one ...but now wish I did, that's a great picture of the colors.
Last time I visited their open house (we're about 2 hours from PDN) I saw this one by the pond, with no tag. It wasn't being offered for sale yet but I took way too many pictures of it
That one looks like the one they call Tiger Stripe. But I have to say, I have Chicago Harlequin, and it looks enough like Tiger Stripe that I wouldn't be able to tell them apart
There were several new unreleased colocasias by the pond, I get wrapped up looking at the pictures, I wanted them all! This picture shows the color range of the Cho hybrid better, more pink than any other var. colocasia I've seen and really amazing range of shades in the leaves and stem. Variegated colocasias are my favorite, I used to think I didn't want to have many that looked so similar, but Lime Aide, Tiger Stripe, Chi. Harlequin, Yellow Splash, Black Marble, etc, all look really different from each other to me but it almost seems like the background color is really important to show them off in the gardens
...so now I know I must have mojito! From the PDN catalog it looked much more like Elepaio than your photo, nice contrast
Brian, um, are you going to be selling mojito spring 2010?
I stuck some in the stream in my greenhouse and its exceptionally gorgeous
I'll bet. I love the leaf pattern on hilo beauty, I can't wait to see this one in person.
they love water
I want to put them along the drainage ditch from my pond. I have sunny to shady along that stream and plan to put watermelon and colocasia there, lol. Maybe I'll just put them into planters at the pond's edge instead.
I am letting mine multiply like rabbits in the pond so I will have a lot to plant out in spring.
Does it look good planted with with a black leaf like Black Ruffles? I am betting it does, but won't see it in person for a while. What's your opinion?
Edited to say... Duh, sorry for the dumb question, I just looked at your pic again and it would look nice with black ruffles :). Well, I can hardly wait to get one. Have a good one.

You have such beautiful plants Gothqueen. I'm always inspired looking at your collection. Anytime you want to give us a virtual tour of your greenhouse we'd be very happy. And broke trying to acquire all the beauties we can't resist.
I'm with you 3js. Would/does look great with black ruffles! I have the ruffles need the mojito! LOL
I bought 5 Mojitos from Brian and Becky's bulbs. I also go to Brian's. It's close and feeds my addiction. :)
I finally got one, also. I think it's pretty! My next mission is to find philo goldii or goeldii. Then I can quit looking for the year, lol. I'm thinking about getting a kiddie pool to set all the wet loving plants I have. Has anyone else tried this, or should I just put individual pots in little catch dishes? For summer, I water pots by hose everyday, but maybe it would be better to plant in the soil and dig up in fall? Anyone know?
I go to a greenhouse locally and I've seen some of their plants immersed in water in full sunlight. They were in individual pots with dirt in standing water. They looked great. I don't know if that will affect our mosquito population. LOL
I use those dunks that kill larvae. That helps a lot!!! I collect rainwater and that's why I learned about them :).
Me too!! I just told someone about'em. The dunks that is..... I use them in my house too when I bring my Macro uprights in and in all the other plants from being outside. My Upright is over 5 foot tall. I have about 13 in the house. LOL I think I have a major addiction.
My mom brought me about 12 of the Colocasia Mammoth bulbs!! I don't know where I am gonna start those yet. My b/f will have a fit. My house is a jungle as it is. I have all kinds of stuff. I don't list everything I have because I don't want to part with too much stuff.
I found out my favorite greenhouse's phone number is disconnected. I have been going there for 15 years. The woman who ran it was in her 80's and she can run circles around me. I hope nothing happened to her. She gave me the best deals. I don't know where I will go now!!! I am sooooooooooo upset. Julie
I hope she's alright. It sounds like you have more of a jungle than I do, and it's pretty green here :). I use the dunks indoors, too. Supposedly it helps with fungus gnat larvae and I have enough water (fish tanks) to keep mosquitos year round, so I treat :).
Do you mix yours in a jug of water or put'em in the soil?? Just curious. I crush mine in a baggie and sprinkle on top of the dirt so everytime I water it gets a dose. Some people mix'em in water. Just curious how you do yours??? Julie
I run my water for the next day into a 6 gallon bucket, if it fert time, I mix, and whatnot, and I keep a quarter of a dunk in the water at all times. I replace when it disintegrates. I also tossed some in the bucket with the water lily and into a fish tank that has no fish, but still plants. I should get a goldfish back in there :). Outside, I try to keep 1/4 dunk in the barrel where I dump my rain water, and if I get the shallow kiddie pool, there, too :).
Goldfish are nice. Aroids look nice around those ponds!!! I have some Pink Chinas, Borneo Giant, Diamond Head,Tea Cups, and MORE... I have so many I don't know what to do with them all. some I pull up and set in the garage til Spring. I have a 15acre lake that is behind my house, but only 2 1/2 acres are mine. Other houses surround us, but it's great.
I get what I can, too :). I enjoy them, the elephant ears and the ones sold as houseplants :). I have just recently been able to get some, we were building and I didn't have room before that to keep more than a dozen plants. I'll be my DH doesn't know what to think with all these plants, lol.
In my latest Logee's catalogue I just got a couple days ago, it has Mojito in there for $19.95. Judging from the comments here, it would be a good buy? I LOVE EE's.........and have had good luck with the things I have ordered from Logees.
I got mine off ebay. It is a big plant and was 13 plus shipping. Logee's has nice plants, but this is a big plant, big leaves, and happy days :)
I avoid ebay like the plague. LOL Heard too many horror stories; tho in all fairness alot of them have been re: paypal.
Out of curiosity.........who did you get it from? Or was it long ago and perhaps they no longer are in business?

I wouldn't pay much more for it, like 13 or 14 is plenty. If that doesn't work out, Brian's Botanicals will probably have it, and there is a DG seller that may also have it for a decent price.
I got mine from Brent and Becky's bulbs. They were nice. If you want to try them. Brian does have'em but I am waiting until next week or so to go over there and see what he's got. I buy from him too!!!
I kept trying his website and it wouldn't work. I'm hoping that he'll sell me a philo goldii or goeldii affordably :). I live too far to make the trip for a plant run, I'm sure my DH would divorce me if I came home with the vehicle stuffed and the trunk tied shut, lol.
I saw Brent and Becky's other EE, didn't see mojito when I looked. That is great!!
Mine has given up re: my buying plants. But, I don't really buy too many anymore. When I go to a garden center, I usually come out empty-handed and tell him "anything I would want I already have and mine is 3 times as big as what they're selling". LOL
My house is full. He tolerated the fungus gnats, and me spraying in the plant room. He doesn't say much about the water dribbles on the carpeting in the living room. He only arched an eyebrow at the terrarium, and never said anything about the little hex planted in our room. I think he would have to say something if I came home with a bunch of giants of Brian's jungle plants, lol.
Well, you can "come home" with them...........I, on the other hand, will have to ORDER them. But, if the mailman (or UPS) comes and he is "otherwise occupied"............hmmmm.........what's a few more pots out there when he doesn't know the count in the first place????? Like adding another cat to the menagerie in the house.........if they hit the litter box every time, one more doesn't make any difference. Been there, done that too. :>)
Well, does anyone else have pots stacked on other pots and kind of looks like the great piles from the cat in the hat?
I reached Brian on this website and or I call his business. I couldn't access his website either. I may call this week and see if he has anything done yet. He told me to wait til the middle of March or so, but I can try and call.
briansbotanicals.net. I have made contact.
I made an order a couple weeks ago........haven't received anything yet. Waiting, waiting......LOL
I will go there. I used to live right down the street, but now I have to drive 20 miles. Some of his stuff won't send out until May. Did you ask him when he will send??
No, I did not.............I ordered online.
Alocasia borneo giants have been slow and Caladium rubicundrum were delayed. Most everything else is good.
