I would like to hear from all of you out there why you think the world trade towers and the pentagon were targeted for this attack. I don't think enough has been said about that. I don't want to muddy the waters by asking too many questions about this wanton destruction of innocent lives, but I do think the targets were extremely symbolic for the terrorists and should be talked about.

to be short and sweet, I think they went symbols of our money and strength. I'll let others expound on that, but what I'm shocked at is that they didn't take out the Statue of Liberty.

Two reasons in my opinion.

First, the WTC and Pentagon together represent the economic and military faces of the USA as nothing else could.

Secondly, the terrorists who were piloting the planes would necessarily need the largest possible targets to aim at - flight adjustments at high speed in large passenger aircraft cannot be taken quickly and hitting the target was of utmost importance to these lunatics.

That's why, in my opinion, they would not have aimed at the Statue of Liberty - too isolated, too small.

Does it matter why??

Jo, I agree wholeheartily. I never really thought about it, but it makes sense. I'm sure they could knock down the statue of Liberty from down on the ground.

it just would have been so easy and so disheartening, that's all. that's the symbol of our freedom. it was just a thought:)
