Garden Photos of '09.....#22

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Allison!

Here is my pond, finally cleaned up and with the waterfall running. I took all the rocks out and arranged them around the edge of the pond. I still have a bunch to do. I think it's looking great!

that geranium would look right at home in my rock garden

:)

love the pond

Thanks! That geranium would do well in a rock garden.

Here's a close-up of the mini hostas in the front of the pond. They are Feather Boa, and the smaller one on the far left is Saishu Gima.

Would help if I included the pic. It stripped down so much that you couldn't see it anymore..

I love Gold Standard, and there is one called Captain Kirk that is a sport from it. I bought that one this year. Here's a pic of it.

Being a Star Trek fan, I couldn't resist buying Captain Kirk. That's it for pics tonight. I have more to post, but will have to wait till tomorrow.

Thanks for the photos Bill. That was quite the action going on there. Even though a little blurry, it looks like a river otter to me. I never knew that they would tackle something that size either.

Karen... Love all of the hostas and ferns. Your pond looks great!

I was so excited to see that this had opened today!!

The wind was making a picture very challenging. The flower was moving all over the place as were the branches above making it change every second from: full shade, to full sun, to part shade, then back again! i think that I took maybe 30 pics to get just one!

In the pic above you can see a pink azalea in the background. Here's a closer pic of it taken yesterday.

Dyane..... if you check out the 2nd picture of the blue poppy, you'll see how the light streaks through about 2/3rds or my garden at any given time during the day. That's what creates about 90% of the lighting affects in my pictures. Trees, lots of trees! lol.

Wha, amazing bit of nature for sure. I don't even think of otter very often and never thought they ate anything other than fish and water birds. Very interesting.

Nutsfordaylily, are you confused? Looks like Nutsforhosta and nice ones to boot. Your get a Wow too from me. I will have to check out the Cochato Nursery in Holbrook, MA

Redchic01, wonderful series of iris photos. Your blue poppy is such a want, but I have yet to be able to germinate any.

I final took some time to try to take some garden shots but it was windy. I can't seem to sleep so up playing with the pictures. Enjoy. Narcissus still going on and on. Patti

Good grief Patti!!! are you up early or late?? I'm not used to seeing anyone else here this time of the night! Beautiful collages though. I really like the tulip that is in the center of the second group. Stripes! I wouldn't be able to grow meconopsis from seed either! I bought those several years ago. This is the third generation that is starting to bloom for me. However, I don't touch the seeds! I just sprinkle a little dirt over the area once I notice that they've dropped seeds and try to not weed them the next spring.

dang. that viburnum is huge!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Redchic01, I knew you would be up. That tulip is Formosa from Van Engelen. They touted it as a " brilliant yellow with green flames" and it was! Love it too. Back to my collages. Too lazy to post one by one. I don't know how you all do that. That viburnum is about 20 years old, but not the biggest one. We have some that came with the property that are much bigger. I have planted zillions of new little guys in the last couple of years. Viburnum Valley made me do it!

Here are more Iris. Patti

Hosta are happy this year. We lost the big tree that use to shade them, so I think some of these should still be moved. But I already moved a bunch and have bought more. Not the collection that Nutsforeverything has. Great posting. Patti

Last one, going to bed, again. I especially like the way Dwarf Martin's Spurge Euphorbia x martinii 'Tiny Tim' has done. I planted it last spring from Bluestone for 3 for 16.95 I need to move 2 of them already as it has filled out very well, almost too well. I am going to move 2 of them up to the sunniest part of the new Japanese Maple bed as I think the color and form will go nicely with the acer. Patti

I like your idea with the Euphorbias, i think that will look good! Thanks for the ID on the Tulip. I get That catalog. I will have to make a note to myself to mark that one the next time a get a catalog from them. Their prices are usually pretty decent too. Your collages are great because you post 25 pictures in the amount of time/space that I post 5! I don't have the patience to do the collages very often, or else I would do them! I just pic 5 or 6 from the batch that I like and call it good!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Collages take no time on Picasa 3 which is way better than the old version. Plus I try to do them for my records to see what is blooming at the same time. Not sure when I will actually use the visual information, but it is kind of cool to have them stored.

Oh, I got those tulips through a DG coop so the price was even lower than normal. We planted another 7000 bulbs last fall. But not this year, way less or at least I am trying to order far fewer. I am working on my Brent and Becky, and Van Engelen/scheeper orders now, and I am waiting to see what eflowergarden is having this year as well as Buggycrazy. I hope someone does a bulb coop this year. Now to bed. Patti

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Good Night! Yep, you still have far more patience than I. Even on Picasa 3! I bet that someone will have the coop. And it'll all look great in your garden!
