I found this guy yesterday. He was about 3/4 of an inch long with black legs. Hope someone can identify him from this picture. Never seen one of these before.

CLOSED: Looks like a large fly
This is a horse fly (Diptera: Tabanidae) in the genus Tabanus; likely the western horse fly, Tabanus punctifer - see http://tinyurl.com/r6zj4q
The females feed on the blood of large mammals; this genus includes some real whoppers as far as size is concerned - look up Tabanus atratus and Tabanus americanus.
Oh, this was a whopper. We have alot of cattle around here so this makes sense. Thanks!!!
