4 O'Clock Seeds

Where and when would I find 4 O'Clock seeds? Mine are awesome this year but do not see any seed-pods.

Hi Nancy' Four O'Clocks(Mirabilis jalapa)

They will self-sow in mild areas.I don't know where in Z5 you are,I'm in Z5also,(NEKS) My neighbors' came back after our temps were record breaking last winter here'

If you want seeds and haven't already,I'd stop deadheading now' The flowers will then start setting seed' Just keep an eye on them and when they look(bud swollen)pick them off and put into a sack to dry. Don't let them dry on something without covering them,as they "shoot the seeds"

I've put them on a plate and covered with only a paper towel to dry them' Hope this helps' Sis'

Another method...

As Sis said, leave the plants alone, and you will see black seeds form where the flower was. 1 seed per flower. Then, (and I'm quoting from a previous thread):

Place the lid of a big trash can (or something of similar size) under the branch. Gently shake the branch, and the seeds will rain down into your container.

Blow out the chaff and you're left with hundreds of seeds, and no bees! :-)

Great advice Dave' Might try that method too':D

Definitely, Sis. After picking out these seeds one at a time, I'd had just about enough. :-)

Thanks so much. I appreciate all of your help.

Thanks for the tip Dave, I spent ten minutes out picking seeds and had two handfulls, but I think your method is much easier, will try it this weekend.
I got some really cool yellow and fuschia broken fou o'clocks. They are quite a sight.

Nancy, they look like little miniature hand grenades.

ROTFL,luvublooms, you are too much. I have never heard them called that before. I have to remember that one.
