Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that, MargaretK. You definitely have that right.
Big Mama RIP 5/22/09
I have learned to never hold anything liquid while reading DG. It's hard on the computer. LOL
I meant in the back seat......

Well, I came home this week to find that a big guy that looked like a cousin of Big Mama's had been wounded by the cats. He was on the deck, bleeding and they were trying to figure out what to do with him.
So I picked him up and did a brief examination. He was alive and the bleeding appeared to be slowing, so I put him in an area in the front yard where they don't typically hang. Poor guy.
I have never seen a frog this size in the yard. I don't have a pond, so I'm not sure where he came from. He sure was cool, though.

Kathy, Sorry about your frog. Do you have a creek near you? Or maybe a neighbor has a pond?
The koi were after something in the pond today and they finally pulled out a smal dead bird from under the fountain intake. They were just ripping it to shreads. I have never seen them so agressive. Put a stop to that and took the bird out of their grasps with a net. It was horrible. Poor little birdy. Sorry pals..back to Koi pellets and algae!
I guess your cats were bring you a present!
I live just above a wetland, so there's water there during the rainy season. And the design around here is to have holding ponds for excess runoff. But it's been dry for a month now and there is no standing water near me, aside from my birdbath, so I'm stumped. Maybe these guys don't need water all the time?
Anyway, I'm hoping that he's fine and that I don't see him again. Of course, I'd like to, but I'd rather that he didn't get hurt. Last month they brough home an injured snake, this month an injured frog. The month before, they killed a mole. The dogs keep running around with voles (they are all good at this, but I'm still having vole damage). But who will kill the slugs?
On second thought, the last thing I need is dogs and cats with slimy mouths in the house.
Oh, well. Welcome to the country.
I saw part of a piece on the Discovery Channel last night about people living over and around rivers filled with piranha. Apparently, every now and then they "lose" a small child to one. You should have seen those children walking on the little timbers that joined the houses built on stilts above the river. They did it as though there were no danger below. Eeek!!
I guess, in the end, fish will eat anything. Poor little bird is right. Just keep your fingers out of the pond. LOL
Well if your frog survives he may eat some of the slugs. They are delicious! Escargot! Just leave a small bowl of garlic, parsley and drawn butter out of your porch for dipping!! LOL!!
Good idea!!

Speaking of eating slugs--My DS said a vet told her, animals who eat slugs can get heartworms. Just a note of caution, I didn't think we had heartworms here.

Our regular kind of heartworm is transmitted by mosquitos. They have to bite an infected animal first and then transit it to the next animal they bite. The "French Heartworm" that they get from eating snails and slugs is in the UK. I haven't heard that it's been found here yet. Clearly though dogs are eating slugs or they wouldn't be getting this.
Gross....
