CLOSED: HEEBEE JEEBIES!

i find these very strange looking insects on my rose bush seedlings every now and then and they really creep me out. some have very red eyes that make them look like tiny demons. can anyone tell me what in the crock these are and how do i get rid of them? (something tells me these are not beneficial, but if i'm wrong please advise.)

It's a leafhopper nymph, maybe Oncometopia - they have red eyes like your bug. As far as I know they cause minor damage but they can spread certain plant diseases.

wow, thank you for the info. no wonder i've suspected symptoms of possible disease on my seedlings. do you know if neem and/or pyrethrin will do the job ridding this pest? i will look into it, thanks again.

leafhoppers, in mass numbers, can do considerable damage to roses and other plants. i kill them with a good wash of dr. bronner's liquid castile soap. neem will kill them too but the bronner's smells better and doesn't cause as much burn as other products, including neem, sometimes will.

yeah, i do believe i've seen the burn you mean. good to know, thanks!

always spray early in the morning or late in the evening after bees are gone and the sun isn't bearing down.

got it, thank you!
