CLOSED: Huge grubby thing

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

Hi guys,

We've had TONS of rain for the last 4+ days. I found these in my neighbor's yard. What are they? Good or bad? If good, do they eat grass? I found them on flooded grass. Would they be more useful/happy in my compost pile?

Thanks,

Maggie

Sinks Grove, WV

This is a larva (grub) of a beetle in the family Scarabaeidae. From its size, it is not likely that it is one of the turf-damaging species (primarily Phyllophaga spp.) known collectively as white grubs; they may well like the compost pile.
