Great pictures everyone!
Last weekend, I went to the zoo and boy did I get a surprise. Aside from the actual zoo animals, there are always a lot of wild grackles and pigeons around because of the easy access to "free food". Well, this weekend, there was also a roadrunner there.
Usually I can't get within 20 feet of a roadrunner; but this one let me get about 5 feet from it. As I snapped a few pictures, it seemed intrigued by the beep/chirp sound my camera's autofocus system.
Now for the real surprised!
After a few minutes, the roadrunner hopped up on the fence not more than 6 inches from me. I slid my hand over slowly and touched up against its leg to see if it would hop onto my hand. I could hardly believe it; but it hopped right onto my hand and sat there for about a minute.
Several people were watching in disbelief as it just sat perched on my hand. One girl managed to get a picture (which she emailed to me today); so I just had to share this one with everyone.
Boy, have I gotten way behind! I've been away awhile so I'm not even gonna try commenting on everyones pics but they are all great. It's wonderful to see pics of birds from India and So. Africa, too
My hubby and I went to TX recently to visit our daughter and I saw a White winged Dove, lots of Grackles, and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. Here is my pic of a Female Scissor-tailed. She lit on this wire while we were at a gas station filling up:
That's a pretty bird CBL51. I'd love to see one in my yard one day!
All wonderful pix. Pelle, that's a fabulous photo of the hawk.
Mrs Ed, thanks for the Blue Jay. I can almost hear it.
Welcome back LittleThings. You've moved, eh? Wonderful bird. Keep them coming.
Jane, what a treat! Any more shots of that gorgeous bird - oh, and also the Roadrunner. LOL
Hey Nanny, you be careful posting something as grand as your pond. Next thing, everyone will be wanting one just the same.
We've had some really wild weather - winter officially arrives in just over a week. I went down the ocean this morning and managed a few shots of seagulls. I really had trouble maintaining my balance and my body was literally vibrating from the strength of the wind.
Those birds looks so gracious glyding on the sky. Hi Margaret, how cold does it get during the months of winter there for you?
Here is a titmouse on my feeder. I saw a pair of them yesterday at the same time at the feeder. I have noticed they usually come one at a time, sings (as if to call one another) before it feeds.
man, I cannot keep up with you guys! so many pictures so quickly. awesome.
Very cool Jane!!! Wonderful pics!
You and Angele are becoming Roadrunner Whisperers!
CB, Great pics on your trip to Texas!!
Margaret, Great shots of the seagulls!
Lily, Sweet Titmouse!
Thanks Lily and Pelle.
Lily it was a "cold" day in Perth today. Our maximum reached only 17.5C (64F). It will get a bit colder than that during the depths of winter. I think our coldest winter day on record was 9C (48F) many years ago. Our minimums do occasionally get as low as 0C (32F) although not on the coast where I am. If we have a minimum of 5C (40F) we think we're going to perish from the cold. LOL. Our mild winters are compensation for our brutal summers.
Here's a shot of a Yellow-billed Spoonbill from a few days ago.
Wow he's incredible! Great shot Margaret!
Look at his 'spoonbill' lol how cool!
