I saw this in my yard the other day. Is it a caterpillar? What kind? Will it turn into something else?
It crawled fairly quickly but yet it was a little clumsy as it fell over a fewtimes.
CLOSED: What is this?
This appears to be a bronzed cutworm (Nephelodes minians; Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) - see http://tinyurl.com/r7krov. It overwinters as a larva, and can do much damage to seedling plants in the early spring. When abundant, it also can be a turfgrass pest. The adult is a rather drab-looking moth - see http://tinyurl.com/ql5xaa for an image.
