And here is a cool gate.
Garden Objects
Rcn, The frog came form Pier1, she gets me the cutes things from there. She got mine from the local store but you can go online and look if you don't have one close. Love the pink clematis in the pic with that great rock. That cat statute is wonderful.
Talk about strong sons I had Jamie and Josh here the other day to move my bathtub (cast iron). With their summer work schedule it took me weeks to get both of them here at the same time and took them less than a minute to move it up from the corral and into the yard.
Stormyla, I wanted to comment on that beautiful green ball of yours
Beaux, Love those old fence and gate pieces.
That fleur de lisle ball is beautiful, Beaux. And the cat is great, Debbie.
Wow, excellent objects everyone!!! RCN you have made some lovely vignettes. I love the cat sculpture, nice bark on that tree beside it. And the stone path to the frog house is wonderful. That tall Armillary is really nice. Everything works so well in the spots you've chosen. Your arbor (the copper one) is very nice. I love the curved top. Curves really work well in the garden.
Beaux, your balls and Iron fence and gate are really lovely. I've got my eye on a whole set of New Orleans style Iron fencing right now. You're right, Home Goods is a great place to find nice Garden Objects. I haven't checked the new one in Radnor out yet. The best one around here is the one in Lawrence Park.
Holly, I haven't been in a Pier 1 in several years, have to make it a point to stop. RCN, My "Collection" is very ecclectic and often changes. Lots of the stuff are ordinary objects, not necessarily "Garden Objects". I just felt like putting them out there!!
Many years ago (25) I purchased a wonderful small (for her) Glenna Goodacre sculpture, long before her work became copied and mass produced. I just loved seeing those life sized copper children leaping through the lawn. When I moved into the high rise, I sold it. I should have kept it and put them in the living room LOL. Now, most of my stuff are flea market "Gems" and many gifts from family and friends.
I don't worry if it's something that I don't like, the elements are tough on garden objects, so if it's not really a well made item, it won't last long. Right now I have some things like that from the kids. They like seeing that I put them out and it makes them happy. Funny, now neighbors have started bringing me things their friends have given them. More Junk!!! But sometimes it's something nice.
Here's a very large and heavy ceramic birdbath. No birds ever use it and it's always full of Maple leaves. I think I'm going to take it down. I want to make a dish planter of the basin. The Pedastal I will move to another spot and use it to hold one of my gazing balls. I lost one too in the wind last year beause I never got around to putting the Plumber's Putty into the hole to secure it. This is where I might put either the cast iron fencing I'm thinking of buying, or that white Iron fence. I do have the other 2 sections to go with it.
I have two of these giant concrete dish planters that I'm presently working on. This year I am putting annuals in them. Just finished one yesterday. Now I've got to get someone to help me lift it and move it to it's home! Last year I was thinking of putting my mini Hosta collection in them, but decided to plant them in the ground. Picked these up at an auction for $40 for the pair. The last 2 years I didn't buy any annuals, but went to an auction 3 weeks ago and they were selling full flats for $3. Just couldn't leave them there!!
These two cast iron urns were planted up until Sunday. I had two begonias in them. They were getting too much wind off of the road and the pretty leaves were getting shriveled. So I moved them and have to decide what to put in there now. The urns were another flea market find. $10 for the pair. The plinths are actually tall pots turned upside down.
I'm going to leave you all with a good laugh before I go to bed. I've had this little what was brick red Bistro set out in the yard for 4 years. As you can see the paint is sun bleached and oxidized. I was worried that it would start to rust, so I asked DSO to paint it.
On Saturday he was working on it in the side yard. I was around the back yard working at my potting bench and did not see the work in progress..
Voila! This is what I get for not picking out the paint myself!!! Oh well, it should fade. Actually I think it fits right in with the genre of the neighbor's fence!!! Can't wait to see how it goes with that Coral Quince when it blooms. I went to the trash to look for the paint can. It's Rustoleum High Gloss Candy Apple Red!! Run right out and get some. LOL
Run right out and get some
LOL, Yikes!!! Gotta love him for trying :) Hard to keep up with this thread! Stormy I love the container pot on your table - been searching for something similar for the succulents we picked up this spring - where did you find it? I'm going to be searching for more 'objects' while I'm in Maine - will be traveling through some areas loaded with antique shops - hmmm, I wonder if my mother will be upset if I'm late? Too many 'old stomping grounds' I haven't checked out in years! LOL
Betsy!!! You HAVE to let me know where Rick Sawyer is located!!! I'm hoping I can stop by on my trip to Bangor to visit my mother. You'll have mail soon, I've got the directions to Bo's place :) Love your gate and fence! Last month I found the old metal gate that used to be at the entry of the old nursery house. Rick had it shoved way back in the corner of the shed and in 10 years I had never seen it! I'd like to drag it out, get it painted, develop a small garden around it and use it as a trellis to welcome visitors to the gardens! Of course the area where I want to put it has a huge pile of junk, old beams, etc. and there's always a family of groundhogs who take up residence there every year - time to move them out and get the spot tilled for planting!
Holly, thanks, I'll check out Pier 1 - there used to be one in Portland close to my daughter's!
Stormyla: I love all of your "stuff"! I was actually thinking of painting a piece of white iron with rust piece of trellis a red-like color. I was wondering what rustoleum had in a spray can. thanks for posting. now i will re-think my decision! However, I wonder how long it will stay that glossy, maybe it will tone down some if the shine goes away. Honestly, it doesn't look that bad, and if you put it somewhere that is was surrounded by green and brown (bushes and trees), it might look very cool.....You could put an outrageous purple plant on it - tell people it's art.... Is Lawrence Park where 73 and DeKalb meet? or is it further up across from Montgomeryville Mall? OR is there a HG that I don't know about yet? So far, my favorite HG here is the one at 73 and DeKalb. The one in Radnor is OK, but not great enough to make that trip especially to go there.
RCN: Everything you have (well, everything everyone has) is very cool. Here's Fernwood's new address: 58 North Ridge Road, Monville, Me 09491. Phone: 589-4726. Hours: May and June 9-5 (Closed Mondays); July and August 9-5 (Closed Mon and Tues); Sept 9-5 open Fri, Sat, and Sunday only. I will be there on Friday, July 3rd. There are directions on the postcard that he sent, let me know if you need them. I might try to go Thursday afternoon - but we will just be arriving in Maine, so I doubt I can entice my DH to leave the lake after the 10 hour ride...... I can't wait - and I get to get an icecream at the purple ice cream place. A double bonus! I am sending you d-mail......
Stormy, WOW! Eye popping. Funny thing is I have a old metal 2 seater glider that needs repainting, I picked out a red for the seats and white for the frame. It will bring the glider back to it's old glory and I need a pop of color in my life.
Yep! the dirt splashing on the white fence gives me fits too! Try using a wood mulch down at the edge or a nonevasive ground cover. Once plants start growing and the dirt settles the problem tones down.
Love your concrete planters on the porch, doing combo pots can be a lot of fun. Calibrachoa and/or OSP vine + coleus are a must in my book. Constant color and lushness all summer.
LOL, Eye popping is right Lady! Yes, I'm hoping the dirt splash back will go away soon. Last week I planted 30 plants along there and last night I saw lots of Glads coming up too. I have some coleus that I've yet to plant. They are such wonderful summer items along with Caladiums. I'm sure your glider will look very nice. It is so pleasant to rest a while on the glider. Every yard should have one or a swing seat.
RCN, that green pot actually came from Home Goods about 7 or 8 years ago. In the high rise, it was on a small table on my balcony filled with herbs. If there is no Home Goods in your area, look for a Marshall's Superstore. HG, Marshalls & TJMaxx are all the same company. The other two have small selections of garden items. I did find a really nice replacement for my broken gazing ball at the local Marshall's last month. It was $15 compared to $35 at a Nursery store.
Beaux, don't rethink your red! Rustoleum actually has 4 or 5 different reds. When I was in HD, they only had 1 can of the brick red and I needed more so didn't get it then. I thought DSO would remember which one I had selected. NOT!
No, The Lawrence Park Home Goods is on Sproul Rd. (rt.#320) approaching Springfield just before Rt. #1. It's about 20 minutes south if you pick up Rt. #320 in King of Prussia. I'm not worried about the table. It will fade and oxidize and now will give people something to talk about other than the fence!
Stormy, that's about the prettiest planter I've ever seen. Really gorgeous.
Ahem. I kind of like the red. I mean it's a bit of a shock at first but it grows on you.
The owners of one of the historic homes in Front Royal painted their metal roof that color a few years ago. So here was this big old mansion house up on a hill with a fire engine red roof. No problem finding that house, no sirree.
Holly, Your wish is my command.
New thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/995009/
Stormy, LOVE Homegoods! We don't have any nearby but I always make it a point to check them out when I'm shopping with my daughter in Maine - that's where almost all of the members of my frog band were purchased - and cheap too!
Holly, that's exactly what I had in mind! Now...where did you get YOUR pot? LOL We've got about 20 or 30 of those small pots of succulents that Lowes had earlier this spring from The Cactus Collection http://www.cactusshop.com/library/products.aspx, really cool Aeoniums, etc. I was looking for a strawberry pot or something similar but I like yours even better! Found out the Pier I closed in Portland but I know where there's one in Augusta, right about where I'd leave I-95 to head to Fernwood and Bo Atkinson's place - thank you Betsy :)
