Me and my proud "catch." The tree is supposed to be a semi-dwarf, but it's gotten huge. Have to cut off the branches in order to pick them.
The Flowerpot Cafe'
Soils, sounds like you had a glorious time with all that cherry picking. They are soooo yummy!
We enjoyed getting the garden done. I need to whack back the daylilys so they look better and can start to regrow.
I have been in the greenhouse this morning watered stuff and now it looks like rain as it has been lightning. Probably wil not get much done today.
Well our days of sunshine are over for now, we had a stretch of good ones for the holiday but back to the rain for this week. Oh well will help my new salvias get a good start. We worked and worked and I got the mulching done in the sun bed and the hottub drained, cleaned and filled again. We did a lot of cookin out and sipping wine, but now it is back to work.
Dianne those cherries looks luscious, so ripe and healthy. So what are you planning on preparing??? What a great activity for the whole family.
blossom, sounds like you have been busy as well over the holiday, better have a sip of margarita there and chill a bit!
Now blossom, was it you talking about the sunflower contest? Can't quite recall. I planted some seed this weekend along with a few more zinnia seeds. Didn't have any come up last year, perhaps this will be the year of the sunflowers?
Hi everyone!
Hope you all had a good weekend, it wasn't Memorial day here.
We did have a bank holiday for whit, and it was warm sunshine all weekend!
Lovely to see you all cherry picking Dianne, nice to have everyone helping out. They look delicious, so expensive here!
Pretty Alsromeria arrangement, are they from your garden?
Candee, It was moi about the sunflowers!!! Hope many did you sow? I've got more seeds to sow but some have come up already.
The Peonies by our sign (10 days ago) have gone from buds to pink flowers and now they have turned white?
They were great value from the supermarket!
Thanks for pointing that out Terri, I have grown so accoustomed to going in and out the back door that I hadn't noticed the change. Your market must have a huge section of cuttings, ours is quite small and pricey.
That reminds me, now that Steven has put up that privacy fence across from the cafe, I haven't seen him around. Perhaps I shall go knock on his door and surprise him!
Morning all! Looks cloudy again.. possibly rain....still gonna make the best of it..
Love that sign terri! Thanks for showing that! My peonies started to open yesterday... I am behind on pics again.
Any fresh sqeezings of lemon, Joe?
The hub and I are gonna work on more privy fence today. I hung some baskets on it yesterday. Need more panels.
Hi everyone!
Candee, I thought I saw Steven dancing up there the other night. lol!
Oh it's you that keeps bringing mud through the back door!!!!!!
Hello Iris! Squeezy lemons coming right up ........................... JOE!!! we got a customer for you!!
where did Dianne put the lemonade jug?
Great service around here today! Thanks Dianne. Think I'll have a glass of your lemonade, it looks very refreshing! Cheers to all. sunny days ahead!!
Joe is havin' a nap around the back LoL!
Oh nooooo, whoa! Ms. Woodsy taught me better than that, no muddy shoes in the house or cafe LOL! I think it is Steven sneaking in here at night to check on things after we have all left?
Lemonade looks refreshing, Ah, Ms. Woodsy please bring that Absolute over my way as I would like a little spot to aid my lemon LOL!
bit early isn't it? LoL!
Aaaaah! Thank you so much for the lemonade. Well the sun came out and chased the rain away. Got some flowers mulched and put up another panel on the privy fence.
Need to get out and soak the pots.
Hmmm sunflower contest.. Dont recall it being me starting that one but I have a huge patch coming up and they are about 5 inches high! They are those mammoth grey stripes....Dont know how they are gonna do but time will tell!
Gonna try to clean up some of the branches that were damaged from the ice storm yet. Can you beleive it we are still cleaning up those? Wow the mess.
Well best hop to it!
Ribbet!!
Hello Bloss.. daffnee,, Iris!! soon to be Helen LoL! Great you have sunflowers too.
Watch out for the ' Great sunflower Race' coming soon!
So far we have Zany, Candee, Blossom, Dianne? Terri (thats me)! growing sunflowers.
I'm still lookin' for the Absolute Candee!
Did soils make it??? Poor dear.... Keep fanning her terri.. I think we can revive her!
I am off to the sunflower patch.. Must rake pics of the little darlings before they get toooo big! LOL!
Get you! with your BIG sunflowers already. LoL!
shhhh, Dianne may be in shock, take it easy with her......
I made it, folks. And I'm OK with the chopping down of the wisteria - I figure 10 years for any plant is enough time.
Now on the other hand, after the cherry picking, my mom had the loppers and I thought she was only cutting the limbs of the cherry tree that we had trimmed down to manageable sizes. When I looked at the pile on the street, I noticed some branches that were NOT cherry trees. Looks like my forsythia - so I went to look at my forsythia, and it was almost all cut down, at the base no less. She left one straggly branch. I went into SHOCK over that - i was waiting for over 5 years for that shrub to bush out and provide me with enough branches to cut (like Terri's huge one). Had to really bite my tongue cause after all, she is my mother. But I did make it clear that before she cuts anything else in the future, to clear it with me.

LOL!!!!!
Awww poor Dianne! sorry for laughing! So you've really put your foot down with mum this time eh?
lol quietly!!!
oh dear - poor forsythia.
I hope it recovers from the hard pruning.
My neighbours had one that I used to admire over the garden wall.
Then the house was sold & a man with bobcat dug up most of the plantings along that wall.
It is mostly boring lawn over there now.
A few things are recovering & hopefully the forsythia was only chopped back not torn out.
He left a Rhody that I didn't even know was there - the rest of the foliage had it hidden.
Be interesting to see what colour the flowers are
Saddest was him bull dozing the small but perfectly formed magnolia nigra.
I would have dug it up for him...
I have a magnolia stellata & am sure they would have enjoyed each others company.

Zany may be the biggest loser of the sunflower contest if she doesn't get to town and buy some seeds! LOL, They won't grow if I don't plant them.
I had a forsythia in a rental yard that was chopped down to the ground when I moved in. I didn't even know it was there until it sent up tall arching branches the next spring. By summer it was a rather large bush. Hopefully yours will come back fuller than ever!
dalfyre, I think I would have cried to see a Magnolia bulldozed.
Zany - thanks for giving me hope on that forsythia.
Dalfrye - if I had a bigger yard, I would get one of those magnolias too. they are lovely.
All you sunflower growers - I will be on the sideline cheering you guys on.
I have already had a sad experience with helping hands a few years ago - the kids' dad told them to clean up one part of my garden while I was gone. They not only cut down the dead stuff, but dug up a bunch of roots. It was late fall, and they thought that everything was dead (not realizing that the roots of perennials are alive). I had a gorgeous patch of maroon/white alstromeria that was perfect - robust enough to give out blooms over long periods of time, tall sturdy stems, and not invasive (not like the yellow ones that Candee doesn't care for LoL). That patch was all dug up - I was hoping that a small tuber would survive and it will come back, but there was nothing, zilch, nada at all that following year, or the next year or the next (I think I am finally accepting the fact that it is not coming back). sigh.......
And Terri - laughing is allowed only if you follow up with bringing me a nice tall glass of Long Island Iced tea.
hiccup, welp thanks for the drink there Tary LOL! Hit the spot, well not me, I missed and made a mess but the drink sure hit the spot.
Sorry Dianne about the forsythia, but Zany is so right. It will come back with a vengence, they are very hardy and love hard cuttings. I got annoyed with mine one year as I wanted it trimmed back and it just didn't seem like enough so I got a saw and whacked it at the base and it reared its head the next season to teach me a lesson!
dalfyre, who would dare bulldoze a garden? That is just wrong.
Now Zany don't you worry about getting to town too soon for those seeds LOL.
blossom, what do you mean yours are 5" tall already? You have already won the contest !
Hi everyone!
Dianne your Mum was only trying to help, I'm sure she didn't mean to cut down the wrong thing!
Kerria Japonica flowers for much longer, it's still flowering here. The Forsythia stopped flowering weeks ago.
Take your time getting your seeds Zany and Dianne!!! LoL
I thought you both said you had your seeds somewhere? anyway I have sunflower seedlings with your names on them! you too dalfyre!
Hope you cleared up the mess Candee! I heard Blossom's were 7" now.
My japonica is coming back after it I thought it had seriously croaked the past 2 years, but I left it alone and it came home LOL! Not blooming but sure looks healthy.
7" surely you jest Terry, I am going out with the Miracle Gro after work LOL!
Ok, I am starting the sunflower thread....no holds barred.. no rules.. just post them there.. !
Back in a flash with the new thread for the sunflowers...!
Dont feel bad on those forsythia. I have about a dozen huge bushes and not one bloomer this year. LOL! We pruned them pretty hard about 2 years ago. I am not touching them..my forced cuttings did not even bloom.. go figure.
I think I will take a sip of that Tea please. Been a long working day today. Man I am so behind now since the hub has been home. We mowed grass all day. He was sposed to go back to work and well, did not happen and now he has another docs appointment.
Terri, I will not tell you about the thousand some odd sunflowers we planted in the back forty...LOL! Nope, you did not hear it from me...! *snicker!*
I think these need transplanting though....They are a wee tad spindly.
Ok, back with the sunflower thread in just a jif!...
Sunflower contest...

Hi everyone!
Thanks for the new Sunflower thread Blossom.
Is it me or DG, can't seem to post any pictures today?
Havenot tried to post any pics yet today.
And you are so welcome for the new thread, Twas your idear!
Y'all are too quiet. Even Candee's parrot is keeping silent. Everyone must be munching on sunflowers. Well then, here is a batch of hibiscus mint tea to wash it down.
Good luck on the contest.
Hey geek, nice to see you. Have been busy round here. Must tell you been outside all the time after work as the aroma this year is more heavenly than ever. I just can't sniff enough of it. I was sitting back by the window in the cafe lounge last evening making a new baby blanket for the new gb on his way and the scent was just divine!
I put a muzzle on the parrots, they just would not shut up, it is off now as you can see but they are frightful that I will return and replace it again.
I think we are in need of some serious arrangements on these tables. Ms. Woodsy mentioned last evening that she is sick of looking at the same ones all the time as they are getting a bit wilted, but I said they stay until some fresh ones arrive!!! hint, hint! I will get busy too although going to the cabin tomorrow eve as we may have a buyer for the jeep.
Well, sorry Ms. Woodsy, no arrangements from me today, I am a wee bit soggy. 2.5 inches yesterday and I am afraid to look at todays news, but fear I must.
Will be back with the report as soon as I feed the critters
Man those parrots are getting chattery! Whaaat, they like all this rain I am getting. Someone give them some crackers! I bet after eating those they will not be able to whistle!
Eeks, another half inch with more on the way... Guess I will play catchup on some things.
Geek, good to hear from you! Im still running behind. So you and the others, even though I am late, you still are not forgotten.
We had quite the thunderstorms last evening with high winds. I left early for work so don't know if anything was harmed. Will have to check when I get home.
I can't believe how wet the weather has been so far, sure you are feeling the same bb - guess we can brace ourselves for a long hot summer, that is how it usually works here.
Well my dear Ms Woodsy, here are some lovely new posies for your visual pleasure. Blue picote morning glories wreathed by brass buttons. I'll just take these old wilted things out to the compost.
Candee, it has been a fragrant spring here too what with a backyard full of iris blooms, the iris show with boatloads of entries, trees blooming. Ain't it grand!
Blossom, we've had buckets of rain for over a month, more on the way. I hace started a bog garden.
Terri, how's the beargrass? Any sprouts yet?
Hi all, It has been dried here for the last month. We may get a thunderstorm tonight or tomorrow. Looking forward to that. But, am heading up to Ashland Oregon tomorrow for some plays - hoping it will be clear on Saturday night since that is the night we are going to see an outdoor play.
Got a little bit of lightening but no thunder and no rain. Got the door opened and the smell of rain is in the air. I am hoping that a little rain willl come so everything will be watered while I am gone. While we wait for new arrangements, I brought this over from the yard to vase series to the cafe......
