I am going to an AV show/sale this afternoon

Medford, NJ

haha you are right....TMI...sometimes the more you know, the worse off you are! Way back when if I wanted to propagate, I just stuck cuttings or leaves into any old dirt in any size pot and had no problems. Now I fret over every move!

I was thinking when you said about the wet/dry leaves that if they went in the little sealed "greenhouse" baggie wet, that they could rot or something.

Guess what, jmp24, growing is never ever to perfection............we are all learning every day..........I think it is fun to try all sorts of new ways, too..........

I didn't say that...but you are right. You just want the soil to be a little damp--not the leaf. Also, not everything works every time, there will always be some failures for no apparent reason. Just use your knowledge base, and common sense, and you will be fine! It worked for you "way back!"!
And what Gail said while I was typing.

I have never heard that, Phoebe.....about the african violet leaf or a strep leaf not being wet when you stick it.............I even soak my strep leaves...........learn something new every day.........

I think all you said was to be sure to dry it, I assumed the reason!

Just realized that my cool flourescent fixture is not working, I had thought maybe the bulb was burnt, so went and got a new bulb - but that doesn't work either so it must be the fixture. Well, everything is potted up, looks good, now I just have to wait.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. No more questions for now! I contacted the person in charge of the county AV group, they don't hold meetings in the summer but do other things, like take field trips to growers and things like that, so I am going to join now instead of waiting till the fall.
