These false indigo seedlings emerged healthy at first, but now are turning yellow. I am not sure what is causing it. They were in seed starters until I potted theme up yesterday evening. The roots seemed to be very healthy.
Can anybody please give me some advice on what's going on with them? Too wet? It has rained quite a lot lately. I have not started to fertilize them yet.
Many thanks.
false indigo seedlings turned yellow :(
Donnerville. This is what it looks lie to me. You had them in a seed startign mix and if you weren't givign them half rate fertilizer, they probably use d up all the energy they had in their seed coat.
Then you just transplanted then and they don't even have their first true set of leave s out good, you just cotelydons there. So nwo you have sent them into shock. May take a week or two before they come out of it.
let em dry out abit and giv e them 1/4 strength Miracle Grow fertilizer every other watering for a coupel weeks til they coem out of shock.
Othe rthan that, looks like they not doign to bad. : )
Thank you, Starlight. Following your suggestion, I have been feeding the seedlings with 1/4 strength fertilizer in the past few days and they have already started to turn greener.
They look healthy, although I potted them up too early. I guess I could have kept them in the seed starter and gave them fertilizer there. Oh well. They survived my heavy hands :-)
Donner. Give them the fertilized drink for a coupel of days and they just plain water for a coupel of days and keep rotatign liek that back and forth and if ya mess up a day it won't hurt anything.
The using just plain water in between is to flush the excess salts that build up from the fertilizer out of the pot.
You doign good. We all learn oen step at a time. I tried growign soem dinen rplate Dahlias last year first time with them and man did I make a big mess out of them. Had to come get the Dahlia experts to giv eme a hand.
By the time you get your seedlinsg up and bloomign you'll be an expert and when ya do should put how ya gre wthem adn yoru experience in the plant files. : )
Starlight, thank you again for the tips. I will make sure to water them with plain water as well. I love false indigo plants for their lovely neat forms and the blue flowers -- I am a sucker for blue flowers :-) It is going to be a few years before they can start to bloom, but as you said, we all learn from experience and the process of gardening is as enjoyable as the results themselves.
Happy gardening!
