I would like to move my lilies, don't like where they are. Can I tranplant them to another spot in my garden? They range from about 8" high to about 3". I also have one in a container that I would like to plant in the garden. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks
Transplanting lilies
You can transplant them, but you may sacrifice growth or blooms. If you plan to transplant, make sure you take the surrounding soil, disturbing the roots as little as possible.
I moved some last year to thin them in the spring. I should have waited until after they had bloomed. They didn't seem to mind crowding as much as I did.
Thanks for the advice. I think I'll wait until after they bloom then. I planted them last year and didn't get a lot of flowers. I'm just dying to see what they look like this year, hopefully much better than last year. The one growing in the pot I think I'll plant in the garden and hope for the best. Thanks again, Diane
If you can move each of your lilies without disturbing the roots too much, they might not even miss a beat. Thinning out a clump is a little harder on it. Your potted lily ought to be no problem at all ~ just dig a big enough hole and put right in without distrubing the pot soil.
