Good Morning Glory Morning To All,
I always look forward to the Dave's Garden Newsletter and Monday's edition talked about MG's.
I was inspired!! I would really like to try my hand at these beauties! My question is, is it too late to start some, (assuming I can still find seed).
Almost forgot, the intro part:) My name is Marlene, I've been hanging around the gesneriad forum, trying to soak up information about streptocarpus. I live in an apartment, but have a few plants outside in containers. (I read that MG's can be planted in containers)
I also must confess to being a complete flower junkie:) Especially right now. I've been job searching for a few months and I find peace in watching the seedlings emerge and grow larger. Except for a package of Sunflower seeds and dwarf crested cockscomb, I haven't purchased any seed this year, just used seed from previous years. The germination rate was pretty good.
(OK, Ok, I did purchase a few impatients and some torenia for the back patio:)
Anyway enough about me, can some kind person let me know if it is too late to plant MG's?
Thanks Much!
Marlene

welcome to the forum
Hi Marlene,
Check my trade list because I still have some seeds to offer for a envelope plus two First Class stamps from last year and they were still sprouting last time I checked them.Dmail for my address if you find something you like.
Karen
Marlene - Same goes here if you would like some starter seeds to get you going. :-) Dmail me if you need anymore than what Joseph and Karen have offered you. :-) I'm going to have to check out the DG article. :-)
Good Morning Imzadi, Karen, Joseph and Beckygardner,
Thanks for your warm welcome and offer to get me started!! I am so excited. Also guess what I found while rifling through my old seeds? A package of Morning Glories!!
I planted them in a container.
I would still love to have a few more though. (Told you I was greedy about flowers:)
I had to look up SASBE, yes! I have two such envelopes (and a few stamps). I will be enclosing four stamps cause the envelope is a 6x9 inch and I want to make sure that it will be delivered.
Because I'm such a new, newbie, I'll be more than happy ot accept whatever you think is appropriate along with any guidance you care to share.
I'm running to catch the mail person.....
Darn, need your addresses first, LOL
Again, I really appreciate your offers, Thanks So Very Much!!
Marlene
Oh, I'll Dmail you this note as well.
Hi there and welcome to the MG forum, Marlene .. I too have some seeds, alot, most of which are the old fashioned ones, I have pink, dark blue, light blue and a tiny blue.. here is a picture of the four of them, I have thousands of seeds which tell you they go crazy, I am just starting out with the japanese kind thanks to the above members here.. I would love to send some of my old fashioned to you, they are great climbing up trees and bushes LOL.. you have to pull them out at end of summer, and catch the seed pods before they drop ( I try to dead head alot) let me know if u are interested.. Debra
Picture below is of the four I mentioned..
Good Morning Joseph and Debra!
Joseph, I already put the stamps (4) on the Bubble envelope. I'm actually sitting here trying to catch the mail person again today, to make sure that 4 is enough. I know that you and Karen had mentioned 3 stamps, but this envelope looks kinda big to me.
(6x9) and I want to make sure that they arrive:) I wish I could have located a smaller envelope.
Debra, thanks so much for your kind offer. I would love to accept it, but I don't want to be too greedy:) All of my MGs will have to go in a pot, I'm still thinking about how to support them once they start climbing.
Can you tell me the difference between the old fashioned MGs and others?
Funny enough, I didn't realize that the blooms only last for one day. I read an article last night that spoke of planting a moon flower along with the MGs for day and night bloom.
Has anyone ever tried this?
Also, I'm really interested in hearing how folks got started with MGs. (I love a good story:)
Now that I think on it, I'll post a thread asking folks to share their stories.
Oh, almost forgot, can someone tell me the difference between the Japanese MGs and others?
Thanks Again Everyone!!
Marlene
Marlene - Check this photo here on my Garden Blog for how I use cheap Bamboo stakes to make a trellis for the vines to grow up. I use this idea alot for my potted MGs. Good luck! Again, if you need anymore, I have seeds I could share with you as well.
