I put some of the snow in summer in my rock garden... next to the phlox... didn't look like it was going to make it last year... but it came back

It gets afternoon sun, from literally noon on. There is a JM that cascades to the left, and a birds nest evergreen (can't remember what type of conifer it is) that is directly to the right. It probably gets 4 hours, full on sun, a day.
