We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/971192/
I know that there is not a single one of us who won't add at least SOMETHING new and exciting to their garden this spring. Share your new plants and projects with us so we can OOOH and AAAH over them with you!
This kid was just too cute to pass up! He is a Cryptomeria japonica 'Sekkan Sugi' . Love the great color of the new growth!
This spring's new additions continued!
Oh... I want one!
Ginger
I have one, too. Thanks again Julie.
It's needles are soft, and the light green tips feel like little kitty tails, so soft. I love it.
There are some things I woul LIKE to post pictures of here, if only I can find them. Please see my new thread:

So today I got motivated and built my raised beds, positioned one, and managed to fill one in. I had to dig down a little over a foot to get the posts in...who knew digging in compacted gravel would be so hard?
Tomorrow after hitting all the plant sales I hope to come home, position and fill the second one. Oh and plant!!!!
Right now I have a mound of wonderful dirt in my driveway - even the neighbors have come over to admire my dirt LOL.
Oh a sad note one of our furry friends had to be euthanized today. Most of this morning was spent crying for the little guy and burying him in the flower bed. Tomorrow at the plant sales I hope to find something nice to put near his grave. Ideally something that will get big with outstanding color.
Dbower, Tears for you and your little furry friend. It is so hard...it feels like a piece of your heart goes away with them. Hope you find the perfect plant as a tribute.
At least it sounds like you will have a full weekend to keep your mind busy with other projects.
DBower - I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you find just the right plant for your dear little friend (cat, dog, gerbil?).
Congrats on your good dirt and new raised beds!!
Welcome, tau10. Looks like you are new around here?
Hi PNWgirl,
I just joined up several days ago. It looks like a lot of good stuff to read and post about!
Welcome, Tau!! The Cryptomeria looks lovely - and it will sure be nice to look at in the dead of winter.
I like your tree. Very nice! And 'hello' glad you are with us.
Welcome Tau! Love your Cryptomeria....there is something about that type of foilage that I go for in a big way, and Kathy is right...it should look great in the winter!
You will definitely enjoy your time here at DG! You could read and converse 24/7 and still never see all that there is to see or meet all the folks that there are to meet. It is fantastic!
Thanks everyone! Yes there are so many topics, and I like a busy forum. Looks like our normal weather has arrived (o: I missed the rain, and I know many others don't agree with me when I say I hope December is the same as last year! I loved the snow, and as you can see my little Tau did too, she had cabin fever so bad she went on my walks with me. Now normally I have her on a harness and leash, but this time I knew she couldn't get far in the deep snow.
I am hoping for snow as well! I loved last winter. You're not alone! I even love the rain.
I love little Tau's back foot with the white and black!
Welcome Tau! I do love the rain for watering trees and for getting me to stay inside and pay attention to household chores that have been too long undone (it's nice to see the bottom of the laundry basket on occasion). However, today was a bit much for me because I had a class load of first graders come inside absolutely soaked from head to toe after their noontime recess, not to mention full of excitement and silly/goofy energy and later on grumpy because they had to put back on cold wet socks and shoes to go home. I let them stay inside to play in the afternoon, but that meant I had to go 3 and a half hours without getting to the bathroom. I cannot understand why people do not send their children to school in boots on a day like this.
Thanks everyone! I've been a little absent minded lately, so I forgot all about this post! I lost my dad about 2 1/2 weeks ago, so let me tell you coming here and talking about my favorite subject, second (kitties + partner comes first) gardening. Don't let my news change the direction of the thread because it's just what I need, a change of conversation. My Dad was delighted to hear that after all the years as a teenager griping about spending so much time in the garden has finally paid off. I now get what he loved, but I think he forgot that it is what teenagers do. *g* So while I am sad, I am continuing to love what he did.
Glad to see other's around the PNW liking snow, I hear so many complaints about it I thought I was the only one. Yes, I love Tau back legs, it looks like she is wearing leg warmers lol, and she certainly loves walking with me. I don't usually let her walk with me off the leash, as a matter of fact since a couple coyotes moved into the park she is always on the leash and harness. I also carry a big wooden walking stick.
I can't wait to see the Radican after a few years growth. I also went to one of our local nurseries to buy this grand fir that was last years live Christmas tree that didn't sell, so I got it at 50% off.
Tau, Sorry about your dad. Good that you are finding comfort in your gardening.
Beautiful tree, great price!
Tau - I'm so sorry about your loss. It's great that you knew your Dad well and still carry him with you.
Kathy
I appreciate all your condolences. He was cremated, no special gathering. I will fly down to the San Fransisco in July then the 4 of us siblings will take his ashes to the place our Mom's are. Since my sister and her fiance are in the process of moving to Vallejo and their wedding is in July it made more sense then me paying for 2 trips. This way we will have some healing, and we can celebrate his life and my sisters new life. Kind of an Irish wake.
I love grand furs, we used to get the Noble for a Christmas tree, but wanted something with more scent, so now I can go out and have that smell all year long.
Does someone know what this plant is called? A neighbor gave me a section that sprouted roots of it's own and this is the first time it has bloomed. I was pleasantly surprised when was out taking pictures on Halloween and there were two purple flowers.
Varigated vinca
Definitely keep it in an enclosed area. It will spread quickly.
Yes I have mine in a whiskey barrel sitting on the paved driveway. It is planted in full sun with mint, ivy, and chives. Also will grow in shade. Usually no pests or diseases. Cut back in the fall if you want.
It is tough to pull out. Tough roots and will grow from any left in the ground. But a really nice plant if you have a good spot for it.

LOL. I love that you are letting the mint, ivy and periwinkle duke it out in their own container!!
