She built a nest in the wreath on my front door. I moved it in two stages to the right of the door. I did not think she would accept the change, but there was evidence she had been there. I put the web cam up to monitor and sure enough, she was there.

I will be watching the cam on Monday! Adorable!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh I want babies....Good Luck Ethel!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

BTW, my Grandmother's name was Ethel!

Tonight we saw Fred and Ethel dining on the platform feeder. Fred continues to feed her. While checking the Cam yesterday, I saw Fred feed her a big old June bug!

Meanwhile, no eggs yet in Lucy and Ricky's house. Still lots of activity there though.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Very nice! We had a Robin build a nest in our wreath, and I moved it a few feet over. The Robin did lay a fourth egg after the move, but later abandoned the nest. That was upseting. Glad to see your Cardinals are doing well!

Orchard Park, NY

Margaret told me about your cardinals. How cool, and exciting! It must be a cardinal year because a pair is building a nest in the shrub right outside the window where I am sitting typing to you. They've never nested in my yard before. It's your mammakarmamrs.ed!

PERTH, Australia

Fantastic, Mrs Ed. Monday will be a significant day.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh goody goody! Can't wait to watch the hatching process. How long is the incubation to hatching? I know 13 days for Bluebirds, but dont't know if the same for all songbirds??

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Cornell says 11-13, which begins on Tuesday.

Dixon, IL(Zone 5a)

OOOhh. So cool Mrs._Ed. I want babies too. LOL. My five year old loved the pictures. She is such a budding birder!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Popped in and mom looks all comfy...will be watching!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

yes she's comfy. I have to move the camera next time she's off the nest.

North Augusta, ON

very cool!!

I need to get me some of those cameras and place them around the yard. be a good way to keep an eye on what DH is up to in my gardens when I'm not looking....

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Hee.

Next I want to get a wildlife cam that snaps pictures when I'm not around.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

you are welcome! It's been quite a treat, combining my electronic geekiness with my bird geekiness

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Very cool Mrs. Ed...and what a great place she chose for her nest. I'm sure looking forward to seeing the little ones when they hatch.

Dixon, IL(Zone 5a)

baby cardinals are sooooooo cute!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I had to cut broadcasting short today to leave the house (I DO get out once in a while). But if anyone was watching you might have seen lots of egg turning. And I swore I saw her listening to the eggs. What a learning experience!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

At 11:30 am, the first egg has hatched. I just watched Ethel eat the shell!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh darn...that would be cool

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

2:12pm, Wow!! I think Momma just ate another shell!
How absolutely cool!
Thank you for sharing this with us

Pretty amazing, huh? Dad has visited several times with food for Mom.

Huntersville, NC

cardinal babies seem sooo polite considering some of the others . . .

mom DOES look VERY comfy-cozy indeed!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well she's got the prettiest house in the neighborhood. and darn, it's dry too!! With built in security system (me). Smart girl!

North Augusta, ON

Do they leave the nest fully flight capable or are you gonna have to keep an eye on fledglings bouncing all over your yard?

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I think these are bouncers. I remember having some in the back yard one year that could only fly so well. But I'm not an expert.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

awww...she left the nest and I can see babies!!! Oh and Mrs. Ed, your feet as you went in and out the door!!

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes, me also!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I DID get my feet wet.

Only one baby so far as confirmed with this photo…

excuse the fuzzy point and shoot quality.

I think we still have only one. I'll peak next time she is gone.

Marlton, NJ

That's great Marna! Congratulations!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Wow, She came to share her family with you, right at your door, couldn't any closer then that. That is something special!!!

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

I was just watching after mom left it looked like one of the eggs suddenly popped open and some pink burst forth. I wonder if I saw a hatching or if the one baby just moved over it suddenly.
This is going to be so exciting to watch!!!
