Do poppy seeds need stratification (a cold period) for germination? I live in zone 6.

Hi poppy gardeners!! I sowed poppy seeds in a flower bed a few days back .I'm just wondering ,if it will germinate ,since these days there is hardly any snow here in western Canada.I love these flowers and i water these seeds everyday.
Can any one help me, if at all i'll get some flowers this year ?
I think it is the perfect time to sow.
