Limelight Hydrangea

My Limelight Hydrangea cuttings keep rotting. Should I try rooting them in sand or try air layering? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I would definitely try sand. An aeroponics chamber might help too. i have never been successful rooting them in water, so air layering would probably be the most dependable method with sand coming in 2nd.
Hope it helps, linda

I'm trying these bark rooting cubes. I'll let you know if it works. I sprayed them with Daconcil and I think that will keep them from rotting. I shall see. I love experimenting.

I'm using the Rapid Rooter bark cubes. I sprayed the entire cutting with Daconcil. So far, so good! No signs of distress. They look like they are going to work this time. I think the Daconcil might be a good addition to my propagation arsenal along with my Clonex!

The Daconcil solved my problem! I sprayed them with it. Those Rapid Rooter starter cubes also work nicely. I have 100% success using this! I'm trying some Pinky Winky Hydrangeas now!

The Daconcil worked with Pinky Winky Hydrangea too. I had 100% of my cuttings root. I finally can root 100% of these!

Glad to hear your cuttings are doing so well. I'm about to take cuttings from my lilac and this will be my first attempt to taking cutting in hopes that they will root, so where do you purchase your daconil and rapid rooter starter cubes from?

thanks

I got those cubes at a local hydroponics store. You can probably find them there. The Daconcil is available at Lowes and Home Depot in a red spray bottle.

When you moisten the rapid rooter cube make sure you wring it out and don't keep it too moist. It should be moist, but not soggy. Also, stick a pencil in the hole so it will take the cutting easier without choking it to death. I put mine in a zip/lock baggie and I would blow it up every single day with fresh air.

Here's a link to the products I'm using (Note the Daconcil I use has a spray bottle)...
