CLOSED: WANTED : Yellow Crocosmia
which yellow crocosmia in particular?????????????
Whoa..how did the date get messed up on that entry? Welcomed JJ...
Their signup date is the same. I wonder if Mark pulled this one from the basement? LOL
LMAO..................................... yes he did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Question: Are there any yellow crocosmia hardy to Zone 6a?
ROX
Someone is a trouble maker!
According to the PF, Gerb D'Or is a hardy yellow. I'm only personally familiar with Lucifer which for me died off after some time.
Did you look at the disclaimer at the bottom of the PF file about the name? Oh my. I really don't know what to make of it! It was named this but couldn't be that....augh! Made my head spin!
ROX
Gerbe d'Or is not called Gerbe d'Or.................. it is actually called Coleton Fishacre or Dark Leaf Apricot, and its not that hardy!!!!!! LOL
LOL I first started typing that I didn't think any were hardy besides Lucifer. Then I checked the PF because I have not kept up with the Crocosmia and Montbretia for some time. I give up. LOL Are any hardy in 6?
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol @ Mark... 5 years later, I wonder how JJ is doing, if he's still waiting on yellow Crocosmia...
LOL.................. Hi Gina......................... I doubt it, but i thought it would be fun to restart the thread!!!
How you doing????
Good! Thanks! :)
You seem to be doing well- with a little time on your hands, too! ;)
2001... LOL
~Gina
LOL
Its fun isnt it............................keeps people amused!!!!
Yes it is fun!! It made me laugh, and we can always use a laugh :)
Yes, I am still waiting on yellow crocosmia! LOL

If I had some I would be glad to send them to you. LOL yall are too funny!!!
JJ...I got my yellow crocosmias at Lowes last year about this time...but they aren't the tall ones...mine only get about 18' tall...but I like the color...don't know the variety name...
Mr. Crocosmia is the King of these plants...maybe he knows a good yellow....!!!
(C'mon Marky boy...give JJ a hand here...! LOL )
Mine went berserk and multiplied like crazy...they are just now coming up...some even up through the lawn...
Are you anywhere near River Rd? I have a good friend who lives there !!!
awww Jeri that is sweet of you!
I know you would share if you had some. Glad we make you smile :*)
~Jen
River Road? Vanceboro? Is that the road?
I am on the other side of the bridge, James City but only 10 minutes from there.
My friend lives on River Rd. in New Bern.....she is from here, and says the climate there is pretty darn close to what we have here....maybe a tadd colder in winter...
Jasper... I have the orange ones that go berserk and multiply like crazy.... but haven't made it to the yard... YET! LOL
If you want orange ones........ don't go to Lowe's........ just let me know K?
Hey Mark what are the orange one's I have? ....you identified them for me before.
Figured out where River Road in New Bern is located. She is very close to me. Does you friend enjoy plants???
JJ...yes she does! I keep trying to get her to join DG......she grows amazing Lilies...wish I could !!!
How tall do your orange Croc's get???
I wish I'd seen this thread about a month ago...I could have sent you some yellows...(IF they're the ones you want...) they're already about a foot tall now, so I can't dig them up...or they'll never bloom.....
I decided a while ago NOT to buy bulbs from HD and the like anymore...they're never what the pkg. says they are....it's so frustrating !!!
Ck. the co-op forums...there may be one coming up for Crocosmias....
18" to 24" tall
Here is what I copied about mine from Mark's crocosma list he sent to me a while back:
Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora syn. Montbretia crocosmiaeflora. Montbretia Crocosmiaeflora is known to all today and its reputation no longer has to be made. It is sold in thousands more or less everywhere, and it will be grown for many years because it is a plant which allies the advantage of magnificent flowering to that of being extremely easy to cultivate and of accommodating itself to the most basic care.
They were very popular here years ago, for that very reason...now you hardly see them anymore...I guess people just got tired of them....I'm trying to "re-collect" some of the older ones.
You are welcome to some of mine.
Been awhile since I have been on Daves Garden, LOL this resurrected thread was from 2001 :*)
Everyone was so kind when I was new back in "01.
I am still enjoying the plants that I received in trade from years ago.
So where do we go from here? Just be aware I will try to tempt you to do a box of goodies trade :*) Those were fun!
~Jen
I'm totally open to trading! What are you looking for?
If you say Watsonias, I'll throttle you !!!! I couldn't GIVE them away last fall. Same for Amaryllis belladonna.....I ended up tossing about 100 of them....they never bloomed because I water too much, and they don't like that.
Good Morning Jasper,
Yes please throttle me! Watsonsias and Belladonna would be welcomed, really
especially because I don't water too much !!!
What else are you looking for? Also have a few Crocosmia Bright Eyes.
Send me D mail with your wish list K?
~ Jen
Well there are 4 yellows basically that you can get over there....................... Gerbe d'Or, Norwich Canary, Gerorge Davison (which is more Apricot colour) and Walberton Yellow which is quite big!!
So i would say you have Norwich Canary or Gerbe d'Or............
mmmmmmmmmmmm Bright Eyes, they are gorgeous!!!! Shame about your Little Redhead Jennifer....... Mine is still going strong!!
Marky boy!! LMAO
Yes, it is a shame that my Little Redhead didn't do as well as yours.......That's why they call you the KING
Contemplating trying Little Redhead again, you know me.....
since you are laughing Marky..... you know I will order Litttle Redhead again
actually thought abut a co-op for Bright Eyes and Little Redhead. You able to get Redhead over there now My Dearest Marky?
LMAO :*)
Yes, it is a shame.................. I am so pleased mine is still ok............ talk about tempremental!!
Yes, i knew you would try Little Redhead again............. remember, keep it in partial shade and keep it moist while its growing, oh and feed it fish blood and bone!!
Nooooooooooooooooo, can't get Bright Eyes or Little Redhead over here.................. STILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wish we could..................... then i would have lots of them my dearest Jennifer Sue.....................
Mark
JJ, you might remember me from your earlier days on DG when I lived in Asheville.
I have fallen in love with crocosmias although there are none here yet. I have a blank slate at this place and there's lots of room for flower gardens as well as vegetable gardens. If you do a co-op, please include me!
I won't order Redhead again from place that I ordered our Little Redhead from.
Will order from where the Bright Eyes came from. Bright eyes available now. Little Redhead looking like June or July from email just received.
Not sure what the problem is with Little Readhead. I won't do the plant and see thing this time...... I'll pot it and care for it specially before it enters the ground.
Thanks for the tip on the fish blood and bone..... Don't recall you mentioning that before.
dearest Jennifer Sue ???
~Jen
No, i dont blame you for not ordering from there again!!
Bright Eyes does really well.................... they are lovely plants!!!!
Little Redhead is just a weak plant i think................... but once you have it growing, it does quite well! Its just getting it to grow thats the hard bit..............
Did i not mention fish blood and bone??? Oh............ well thats what you should feed crocosmia on.......... if you give them fertiliser with too much nitrogen in they wont bloom much but will have great foliage!! LOL
Dearest Jennifer Sue was because you said My dearest Marky!!
Mark
At the present, everything I WOULD have been able to trade, got planted in the fall and is now growing.
Crocosmia here do odd things...they bloom, and then stay green for about nine months...never really turning brown...then the new foliage comes upright next to the old...so I never know what to do...
Now that I have a dig. cam, I can take pics when they bloom and we can see who needs/wants what....
I also find it odd, that when the nurseries here sell the corms, they are VERY small....maybe just the size of a penny....when I dig mine up, they're huge...like a big gladiola corm....so I don't really know what's up with that....
Maybe the King can shed some light on that.....or do large corms mean smaller plants???
(I know that doesn't make any sense, but....)
Welll Hello Darius!!!!
Didn't we join Dave's about the same time? Nice to here from you! Yes I remember you from your days in Asheville.
Please tell me you took some of your pretty plants with you to Virginia.
Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora syn. Montbretia are yours for the asking. Can get you some Bluebells later in Spring.. are you still looking for them?
What you got growing at your new place? I know it can't be bare not with your gardening passion.
I have never done a co-op before, but if you interested in Crocosmia Bright Eyes I will figure out something. I can get an additional tray (72) plants of another plant for same shipping cost so let me know what other plants you interested in.
Another favorite trader from back when was from Ohio....been looking for her.... at the time she owned a campground.
The crocosmia there do odd things because you obviously dont get any frost to kill off the old leaves.......... or should i say enough frost!! So they will never die back.......
I would just cut the old leaves off and let the new ones grow...................
The reason the nurseries sell small corms is because they are the new corms that have grow that year........ they just harvest them and pot them up!! Its better to have the smaller ones, because the big corms are the older ones and sometimes wont develop new shoots anyway!
LOL............. no, it doesnt mean the large corms make smaller plants!!
Hope that helps.............
Mark
Jasper Dale,
Perhaps the King would be kind enough to shed some light on the size of the corms. I thought it depended on the type of Crocosmia.
I would be sending you new growth, same as you described, some with small corms and larger corms that have been there for awhile. Although none of these Crocosmia ever are larger than a quarter they always bloom.
I am interested in your yellow Crocosmia. It is a bit colder here than there. The leaves turn brown here in late fall. Perhaps Mr. Crosmia can tell us if this is an ok time to trade.
Marky Boy, your opinion please LOL :*)
