dahlianut, congrats. My first narcissus was on March 27th. I think you live in a very cold place. Patti

d-nut--your violet is gorgeous! You should post that pic on the AV forum--they would love it! Thanks ^_^

Your little daffy friend, however, gives me the willies! ::shiver!-shiver::

The Hens & Chicks you gave me at the RU last June did great!

Some babies in there too!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

not a garden photo.... BUT.... took a picture of this guy walking the BUSY truck traffic streets of Carlstadt today... we found out there was a pond behind one of the buildings and he must have wandered off... my co-worker picked him up and moved him back where he belongs before we had turtle soup

Robin, wisteria's are sooooo resillient. I would be surprised if it didn't show up again sometime here soon. Why does your brother want to kill his off? Is it killing the host tree's? I've seen a couple of them grow 70 or 80 feet up into hemlocks around here. Doesn't seem to bother the tree at all. In fact it looks pretty neat when the hemlock "blooms!" I love the heuchera (palace purple maybe) and epimedium.

Bill, there are a couple of very small communities about 40 mi. UP the rd from me. As in about 4300' higher than my elevation. Not many people have japanese maples up there, but of the ones that do..... they're planted in the ground in pots. I'm not sure why they do that but figured that there must be a good reason if everyone there thinks that they need to do it. So, you might very well be on to something. My first guess for a reason is that the when the creatures that hibernate in the ground start to wake up and are extremely hungry, japanese maple roots might be the easiest thing to burrow through or eat. But, that's just a guess.

cute turtle Allison!!

Cool gabagoo! I have chicks and hens in NY!!!!

Turtles venture out to lay eggs this time of year, maybe she was ready for that. Reminds me to go to the park and see if I see some. Mendon Ponds Park has a lot of ponds and turtles in the ponds.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hi, guys. Forgive me if I don't comment on all the great pics. I've just enjoyed looking at them. I'll have to go back to the previous threads and catch up. Yesterday was the first time I took my camera out. Not too much going on. I have so much vole damage this year I get disgusted. I missed most of the daffs, but I have picked some and brought them in. At least the voles don't eat bulbs.

Here's one of the 30 or so aubretia that I grew from seed 2 seasons ago. There's only a few left because of the voles.

flowering quince 'Cameo' is gorgeous, but it has a strange growth habit. the branches have kind of laid on the ground and the flowers grow at the main stem (trunk?) so they're kind of hard to see, but they are gorgeous. It is finally getting some height, but the flowers are still at ground level. Maybe next year there will be some higher up. (the grass growing in the bed is just a bonus I could do without)

Planted last year...3 plants of peppermint stripe creeping phlox

Thumbnail by grampapa
Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I interplanted the phlox with forget-me-nots (yes, I have learned how fast they spread. I planted ONE in my rose garden. But they're easy to pull out)

An amaryllis that just bloomed. I neglected the poor thing...never repotted from last year. It just put up a small bit of green so I started to water it and this is what I got.

This is an African violet I just acquired from Aunt. she said she was going to toss it because she couldn't get it to bloom. It had a bud less than a week after she brought it here. I have great light :0)

One more...an ajuga given to me by a friend.

edit to add: oops, fuzzy. I should look at the pics before I post. I have it planted over some daff bulbs.

Hi Jan! Nice pics. Great to see color is everywhere.

I'll start a new thread soon.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Awe, poor turtle! I just discovered that there are tons of tiny baby tadpoles in the pond. I saw mom and dad having at it a week or so ago. Don't gold fish and koi eat baby tad poles? I am surprised that there are any left, but it seems like there are 100s.

I am not sure which type of female kiwi I have, Debilu, but I would love to get a cutting from your male, if you don't mind and it isn't too much trouble to start! Hopefully, a match made in the heavens!

Nice aubretia, Jan! Very nice! Sorry to hear of the vole damage. This is the first year my yard hasn't been tunneled up, I'd say they all jogged over to your place, but we have had several cat-bearing neighbors move in, in the past couple years, so I see cats everywhere now. If only they worked on those dang squirrels!!! (And stopped teasing the dogs!!)

Love that last, back-lit shot, Shelly!!

I think my back is sharing some sympathy pains with you, Patti! I need to get me one of those truckloads!! And one of manure .... And one of topsoil .... And one of compost .... And.....

I have also been enjoying all the great primrose photos! I am trying to grow candelabras from seed, but none have yet to sprout.

I will be anxious to see how the stephanotis seedlings I started last year take off this year! They didn't put on much size last summer, as you can see in the photo below (taken yesterday). I bet I ended up with at least 25 plants.

Nice Amaryllis, Jan! Is that Red Lion? I like the forget-me-nots, too.

Hi Jan! Nice photos...you know I love that aubretia and of course forget-me-nots.
