My heavens Raggedy Ann...My Daddy was born in 1900.....LOL
Trust me dahlin... that ain't my body them Bloomers is on...I just did it to give y'all a giggle...
I can't wait to get back down there...This state is no place for a Suth'un woman to be...especially with bones as old as mine are...
I am still hoping to find a small derelict farmhouse down there on an acre or two...I haven't given up hope yet...Hopefully I can get down there soon to do my snooping...Y'all keep yer ears open, and yer eyeballs peeled for me...I doubt I can be ready to move now much before next Spring, unless something wonderful comes up...
No Bloomers here yet, but this is my newly tilled Veterans Garden...That rose is Memorial day, and the daylilies are Uncommon Valor, and Enola Gay...
Show us your bloomers!!!
Dusty - a Veteran's garden is such a neat idea. Is part of it in shade? You could get some neat patriotic named hostas if it is. Good luck on your property search. Do you know what area you want to move to yet?
RaggedyAnn - the weed oxalis has yellow flowers. I pull it out all the time too. It doesn't have little bulbs like the pink. but it has stolons I think. My pink kind doesn't spread hardly at all. That clump has been there 3 years and is only 18 inches wide now.
The weed oxalis is EVERYWHERE. It's often bronzy-leaved, sometimes green. For you folks too?
I just realized that the plant I thought was wild strawberry is apparently Cinquefoil.
erdooley, that Rainbow sorbet is fabulous; looks unearthly. And I wouldn't kick the others out of bed either!
Thanks cedar18! I bought it as a container rose at Hastings several years ago on a whim and it has just performed wonderfully. Mother's Day is always esp. special because the roses are at their peak.
Oh I love that Tuscan Sun. Your May Night is doing so much better than mine. I need to move it into a sunnier location.
erDooley... I have the hardy geranium here as well...I just moved a huge clump of it less than an hour ago, watered it in, and it's a tad mad at me right now...but tomorrow it should be okay....
I envy your roses...mine are just now trying to bud out...
I moved a few of the dark blue batchelors buttons as well, down into the back of the Vets Garden....I have tall white Cosmos seed in behind them...They weren't happy with me either, but have perked back up after a good drink of water...This garden was originally planted by my adopted baby Sis who moved out last spring, and took what she wanted, and left the rest...It looks like a hodge podge now with all of the gaping holes everywhere, and tons of weeds galore...
I filled a second 33 gallon can with weeds today for the compost bin, and I know I can fill at least 4-5 more.... There is a 3500 gallon pond and waterfall here as well, that I have had to literally tear apart to find all of the leaks, but thankfully that is over with...now I just have to reset the rocks after a bit of backfilling...I am trying to get the property in order and looking good to a prospective buyer...Sis and Bro intend to sell it...
It has been a real trial with all of this rain we have had...It is supposed to start again Wed. and go for 7 days again...It is virtually impossible to contain these weeds when we have that kind of weather...I am digging and moving plants to new beds as hard and fast as I can...trying to get them to look somewhat organized...The rest will see the weed whacker and sprayer full of Herbicide, and I hate chemicals, and I hate killing plants even more, but something has to be done to get this riot under control...
I am so used to Southern gardening....and some of these weeds I have never even seen before...
I will get some pics for y'all tomorrow....
Have a good evening !!!
Hey ladies , the little wild irises are starting to bloom in the woods . Can I move them to the yard successfully , and what is the name of them ? digger
digger, I don't know which Iris you mean. Can you post a pic? My Dwarf Crested Iris, which are a native but I bought them, bloomed quite a while ago. If yours are like these, they are very shallow rooted, basically threads on the ground connnecting the rhizomes. So when I've moved them, I've had luck only when I potted them up for a season and let them develop more roots. Then they do great.
Hey Sally, We call the beautiful blue ones Blue Flag! Mine are just now starting to stem up. Usually I have first bloom the first week of June.
I'll go look again . digger
My computer died (motherboard, I'm pretty sure) so am using my hubby's ancient one. Too much trouble to post pix, I'm afraid.
But our Water Irises are blooming (I really love those dark dark purple ones), and we have Corrida and Petite Brigette asiatic lilies. The first dwarf orientals are just now opening and I'm sooo grateful for the fragrance. Big rhodies are happy too. Oh, and we have some snapdragons that have self-seeded and/or survived the winter in our sorta greenhouse (along with some plain old but lovely nursery geraniums).
Some alstroemeria that we got years ago are finally getting settled and the first bloom appeared yesterdeay. There is some kind of wildflower that I think is called Miami Mist popping up everywhere and some kind of pink wildflower/weed that is appearing alongside some crimson clover that I can't remember ever seeing here before.
