CLOSED: One beetle and one...ummm...?

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

I have two bugs needing ID.
This is the first. Beetles that act like Japanese Beetles but don't look like them. These two were munching on a Clematis blossom this morning.
Would like to know if they are just passing and won't do much damage, or if they are a scourge. :)
Thanks!
Second one is coming up ...see below.

Here is the 2nd. Sitting on Lantana. Reminds me of ladybug babies, but I've never seen a purple one before!
What izzit?

The beetles belong to the same family (Scarabaeidae) as Japanese beetles, and can do quite a bit of damage when present in large numbers. The larva is that of a lady beetle (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), but I'm not sure as to which species. Not all lady beetle larvae look alike!

Well, thanks, Suunto! Those beetles will get the nasty hose squirt if I see them again, then! So far I've only seen the two.
Appreciate you help.
