I've found at least a few of these guys or gals in my backyard. I think they are maybe interested in the fescue grass but now that I planted a garden I'm worried about them turning the garden into dinner. Anyone know what type of grasshopper this is? Do you have any ideas for some safe, natural deterrents for them? Should I be worried about them?

I think maybe the bug files has it: Pallid-winged Grasshopper. Can anyone confirm?
Although I cannot specifically identify this short-horned grasshopper (Orthoptera: Acrididae), I can tell you that it is not a pallid-winged grasshopper (Trimerotropis pallidipennis). Neither is it either of the two economically important species in California, the devastating grasshopper (Melanoplus devastator) and the Valley grasshopper (Oedaleonotus enigma).
