Double Tulip

Knoxville, IA(Zone 5a)

I bought a bag of tulips labeled "Fox Fire" which is a dark rose double tulip. Evidently it was mislabeled, because here's a photo of my tulips. Does anyone have an idea what this one might be?

Here's another photo from the same bunch:

Hi Edy,

My guess would be that the top picture is one of Mount Tacoma. Are the two the same? The first pic looks more double than the second. Here's an old shot from my garden that includes Mount Tacoma. What do you think? It's got that same green edging at the base.

That looks a lot like it. Some are more double than others. The one picture is taken directly above so the green on the base doesn't show as much. When they first open, they looked sort of a pale green, but looked white when fully open.

Donna, what part of Illinois is Gray's Lake? My daughter lives near Bloomington/Normal, IL.

Grayslake is in the northeast corner of Illinois. We are about 45 miles north of Chicago, in Lake County.

I understand that Bloomington is really lovely. Like those gorgeous tulips of yours.

I can't identify the tulip, but it sure is a beauty.

It could be Tulipa 'Exotic Emperor' from Brent and Becky in 2007

Quoting:
10 for 9.00 Exotic Emperor-lovely, pristine white petals iwth greenish markings on the outer sepals; unusual and elegant; 13"-17".

This is the best picture I could find.

I just returned from a four day trip and went out to look over my flowers to see if I had any new blooms. I was so surprised by my tulips--all the "white" tulips (see first two posts) had turned pink! They had been open for several days and all ten had been white with a little green. Now they are all pink. I have never seen tulips change color like this--I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw them. Is this unusual or is it just that I never happened to have a variety that did this?

It looks a lot more like what they described. And what a pleasant surprise. It's like getting two tulips in one. How wonderful!
