Last spring I got a lot of lily bulbs from a Co-op group I belong to. I didn't get them all planted right away. By the time I did get to them some had started growing and I found my one and only New Wave bulb was rotting.
Well I was really upset with myself, I really wanted this lily. I cleaned off the rotted parts of the bulb and found that a few parts of it were rot free. So I dipped the few pieces I found that looked ok in a 10% bleach and water bath then went ahead and planted them in a container. They grew little leaves last summer but that was all. The picture below shows what they look like today. They've done very well and are starting to look like a lily plant. I think there's a good chance I may even get some bloom this year. I was able to save my lily.

What I did with my rotted lily bulb and the results
It looks like there are 3 that ought to give you a bloom. Good job!
I am glad they are coming back, Joy. I had read you could do that but I had never tried it. I wonder about bulbs that you slice while digging in the area? Will they die or repair themself?
Unfortunately I know the answer to that one ~ the results are much the same as Joy mentioned above. I got a bunch of little babies from the scales that were still intact. Wash the soil from the injured part, dust it with a little fungicide and plant. You can't do anything but try! :)
That's very good to know Moby.
My surprise was how fast they've grown. I really thought it'd be at least a couple of years before they'd reach flowering size. If they bloom this year like it looks like they might, it only took one year.
I won't be throwing any more bulbs out without examining them for good scales after this

That's what I was surprised about too - how well they grew in such a short time.
Good Show!
I'm wondering how much living where I do (PNW) plays a part in how fast they matured? I know a lot of lily growers are here. My lilies always increase pretty fast too. Even my orientals seem to increase better than what I'd expect from what I've read.
