Lovely irises next to a very inviting pool! I just spent some time skimming the top of my pool with all the stuff the wind blew over a few days ago.

Irises are starting to bloom here in Sacramento too

LOVELY iris, everyone, and doss what a beautiful setting you have. Mine are blooming, too, but I've just realized all my pictures are utter crap, so I'll try again tomorrow...LOL!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Love the irises ladies, thanks for the peek.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Doss: What's the name of that iris in your photo? It's beautiful !

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

One of the iris is "Creative Vision" and I believe that the other one is By Design but might be Love is All around. I couldn't find the tag to the one on the right

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

doss, your iris, and pool are a treat for the eyes! ^_^
I got wild tobacco. The hummers like it.

Not for sure what this is growing out in the pond. Maybe a pickerel?

WOW, SW, you must be feeling better! Look at all these pictures, girl! You're amazing.

And I love having been able to help you name that Zoomie guy! I mean, look at him hanging in there with you.

My Wisteria is almost bloomed out for now. It may bloom again if we get a gray May, and June Gloom, or sometimes it's even bloomed in August if it is cool and gray in a monsoonal way. ^_^

Nice to see the subtle things happening in your garden SW. But of course the Wisteria is always a stand out. I didn't know that it ever rebloomed.

Love your Creative Vision iris doss!
Here are two brand new ones in my garden.

Very pretty Sue! I always forget just how beautiful iris are. Now if only they would bloom longer............

I know, i think that of all the bulbs. Thank goodness for roses and daylilies and the myriads of other plants to fill in for color after they are done.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, such beautiful Iris there! This year I am totally falling in love with Iris! Doss, remember when I was looking for my first Iris to plant earlier in the season?

This is the first one to bloom: Change of Millenium. I'm in love with these colors! The odd thing is it's supposed to have a "strong, spicy fragrance" and I cannot detect any fragrance. But, these colors are enough joy for me, I had no idea on top of all they would have several blooms on one stalk!!!

beautiful Rob. I"m glad that you put them in. I just walked the garden and they are so beautiful right now.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

rob, those are so pretty !

My iris started blooming last week. The taller ones got hit by high winds, and they ALL got hit by 3 days of >90 heat. Wish I knew what the varieties were, but if I ever knew I planted them before I had sense enough to keep good records.
This one was a "share" from a friend:

This one is "copper" something, and it's wonderful. The blooms open in the darker shade, and then fade to the lighter color:

I really like this blue, and the bloom stalks are shorter so it's not so susceptible to the wind:

This is the first bloom I've ever seen on this one, and I'm sure I've had it for at least 3 years. Of course, now that I've had the landscaping done, it needs to be moved..LOL!

I fell in love with the picture of this one in a catalog, and waited years for it to have its first bloom last year. It's "champagne" something:

oh that is just gorgeous!

beautiful!

rob,
Maybe it just needs more time to get established. Some of my plants are only fragrant at certain times of the day, maybe you should go sniff at it in the early morning or in the evenings. My 4 O'Clocks are really sweet smelling in the evening, just before dark. Have others of you DG'ers encountered this?
Who cares when the iris is that pretty, anyway? I love the colors, they are so vivid. You have great taste.
I like Iris a lot because I don't have to water them usually. You don't have to water them in the summer but they give you great spring color. In normal rainfall years I don't water mine at all. Then during the summer you separate them. In the summer time I have been planting Sun flowers in that area (for the birds), and they don't require much water either.
My place is a lot less civilized, and I'm trying different things in different areas. Hard to explain my vision. I love the way your walk way is laid out too, rob.

My white 4-o-clocks, when they're blooming (haven't seen even the first sign of the plants yet, but they'll be back I'm sure) start smellin' good about sundown, and stay fragrant till the next morning when the flowers close. If we get a heavy marine layer in the summer, they're still open at noon. As soon as the sun hits the blooms, they close up. Right now I have a couple of stems of white nicotiana that are blooming & fragrant in the evenings. The wind hit them hard, and I need to cut them back. But they smell SO good I hate to...LOL!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Imapigeon - what a lovely collection of irises you have. Such a nice range of colors. I never know what variety of plants I have either.

Gilroy (Sunset Z14), CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks, everyone. I have a couple more that have buds---I think they're different varieties. Several of us went to an iris farm in May, chose the iris we wanted, and picked them up in September. And who could remember what we chose that long ago???? Anyway, they were all beautiful, so it didn't matter...there's no such thing as an ugly iris...LOL!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

OMG guys....that's it! I am SO addicted to Iris now! lol!

SW, you got a good point on the fragrance...I will go smell the Iris at different times and see if I can detect anything.

Ima...I absolutely love nicotianas! I started with two little 4" plants last year, and they have self-sowed everywhere in the garden...I think it's great! At dusk they open their blooms and spread their fragrance in the air....it's so beautiful to see the white blooms in the night garden, it's like they glow!

rob, that is a pretty one! I have seeds for a lime-green one that I need to try, too.

Love your fireplace----would be perfect here...LOL...and it's already the same color as most of my house, so I wouldn't even have to paint!
