There have been a couple of cases here in Ky. The prison is in lockdown. What are the symptoms?

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

The symptoms are the same as for any flu: fever over 100.4'F , cough, sore throat.

Influenza A(H1N1) - update 14

4 May 2009 -- As of 18:00 GMT, 4 May 2009, 21 countries have officially reported 1085 cases of influenza A (H1N1) infection.

Mexico has reported 590 laboratory confirmed human cases of infection, including 25 deaths. The United States has reported 286 laboratory confirmed human cases, including one death.

The following countries have reported laboratory confirmed cases with no deaths - Austria (1), Canada (101), China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (1), Costa Rica (1), Colombia (1), Denmark (1), El Salvador (2), France (4), Germany (8), Ireland (1), Israel (4), Italy (2), Netherlands (1), New Zealand (6), Portugal (1), Republic of Korea (1), Spain (54), Switzerland (1) and the United Kingdom (18).

It is considered prudent for people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities. Individuals are advised to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness.

WHO advises no restriction of regular travel or closure of borders.

There is no risk of infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products.

"The swine flu mortality rate in Mexico was lowered last week when it was learned that several deaths formerly blamed on swine flu were attributable to other causes."

http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/updates/en/index.html

Most countries are reporting those with confirmed H1N1 flu virus to be having mild influenza symptoms. There has only been one reported death of H1N1 flu in the US and that was the child from Mexico who died in Texas.

I'm no expert on pandemics, but I just returned from a week in Alaska and the hand sanitizer I bought was too many ounces to take on the plane, and I know I touched some door handles etc that had been touched by gazillions of people, and still had lunch at the airport last week, had a quesadilla, then forgot and licked my fingers when they got covered in salsa. (OMIGOD). What do you know, I did not contract swine flu.

Sorry, VP Biden.

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

You get toxic e. coli from salsa... it's so hard to keep all the infecting agents straight anymore...

read in Wall Street Journal that this Mexican flu is related to a flu that some pigs caught from a human in the States a few years back. Very similar mix of bird, human and swine genes.

Do you suppose they make N95 disease control masks for piggies? =0) I can hear it now... keep your pestulential little child away from my healthy pig! You want to start a pandemic!?
