I've been finding these insects in my bird's cage, in my plants, etc. What are they and what do they eat

This is a cricket (Orthoptera: Gryllidae). The image is too fuzzy to be certain, but it bears some resemblance to Gryllodes sigillatus, a species variously known as the Indian gouse cricket or tropical house cricket - see http://tinyurl.com/caudc6 for an example. They are fairly general feeders on a variety of organic materials, but do not appear to cause any real damage.
