A Plea for Reason

Are we sad and fearful? Of course. Will we give in to bloodlust and anger? I hope not.

Yesterday, in Long Island, a man screamed, "I'm doing this for my country!" as he tried to run down a Pakistani woman with his car. In Wyoming, an American-born woman of Arab descent, and her children, were chased from a store by an angry mob of shoppers. Everywhere people are buying guns and talking hate.

If we give in to this panic and anger, if we declare war before we know who the enemy is, if we become a police state, the terrorists WILL HAVE WON!

I sure don't blame people for being mad as heck, but sure, you need to target the right people. I think our government is in the process of lining up the sights as we speak. I'm not going to tell people NOT to be mad (and I don't think that was the purpose of your post), but as you say...we can't go around picking on innocent people. As for guns...I'd like to get another rifle myself...a nicer model than I have now. A .308 caliber bolt action, 26" barrel and a nice scope. What most refer to as a varmint rifle...excellent for long range shots (up to several hundred meters with the right skills). Of course, maybe that should be in the gunowners forum...but there isn't one ;) By the way, I do not hunt...I just go to Krogers :) I do though, enjoy having the freedom to own my own firearm(s).

Believe it or not, there have been a few racial attacks here too, aimed at arab and Islamic groups, others just because they looked like they were, one company here had to send home a lot of its work force, the tention between the workers threaten to errupt into violence, we didnt get attacked, but the force of it has had an effect here too, and i dare say it is much the same across the western world, fear and anger coupled with the need for revenge, never a good mix, but this is how it will be for a little while at least.

We here, the regulars of DG should see to it that we do not allow those tentions to errupt here, for any reason, this is not the place, intolerance of others has reared its head here already, and should stop now, i am not an American nor am i a religeous person, but i am sure it is your constitution thats allows freedom of speech for everyone, regardless of there skin colour or religeous beliefs, we are here for the one common goal, the betterment and knowledge of our united interest, gardening and plants, please, leave Daves Garden for that purpose, we have enjoyed peace and good will here, let it return, there is enough bad feeling out in the world and on the streets, we can do nothing about that, here we can.
