Has anyone hard of a tick bush?

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

A friend mentioned someone is giving her a start of this today and I've never heard of anything called that. She said when she asked if it had another name she was told that's what it has always been called by everyone they knew. She's supposed to give me a description when she can but being curious I thought I would see if anyone on here is familiar with it. Her boyfriend told her it's supposed to kill ticks and if it does I definitely need one or two. It evidently dies down in our zone 6a and 6b because she mentioned she wouldn't get her start until it came back up.

Any ideas anyone?

This is the only think I know of called tick bush: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59922/ Some other Kunzea species may go by that name as well, but I don't believe any of them would be hardy in Kentucky, plus they're not that common even out here where the climate is good for them, so I can't imagine that a a lot of people your friend knows would be familiar with them (unless they're all from Australia!)

There's also tickseed which is a common name for coreopsis (which is not a bush) but it does die back every year so in that sense it fits the description. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=coreopsis&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search And it's fairly common and would grow in KY so I'd consider it a definite possibility. No idea if it repels ticks or not.

ecrane3 thank you for your reply. After checking both links I suspect it's the tickseed. I will ask my friend to find out what color it is. Some of the pictures of the tickseed look like something I have here already growing wild and they definitely don't faze the ticks here.

Hi Margaret,
I heard garlic and and geranium oils repel ticks. Especially rose geranium.
